Another thing I've got a lot of experience in-racing in the mud. I saw this a great deal in the winter series XC races in England. 2.0-2.25 tires out rear. Small, spaced out center knobbed tires with larger, spaced out knobs on the outside. I'd recommend a tire like the Intense CC 2.25 Intense for the rear and a tire like the Intense System 1 for the front.

Don't go with any tire with tightly spaced knobs. These will quickly fill up with dirt, mud, and rocks and bog you down. I've seen XC racers turn their back tires around as well, reverse the directional tread, for better traction in the climb for wet conditions-but this is a give and take method. You're going to gain rolling resistance for the sake of better traction. Give and take.

Thanks,
The Racing Ralph's I have like to pack mud like crazy, but nah, I'm not changing them out. The Python in the rear is just gonna be even more squirrely than normal.

Especially since we have no real idea of whether it will be raining or not.

The ground out there tends to soak it up pretty well (especially the sand), but there will probably be a ton of rain ruts (despite all the work they did on the course two weeks ago), and puddles in some locations (unless they push the water out near the 4X course).

Allison, try putting it in a pillow case and tying a knot at the end, then put the towel in with it and air dry it. That should protect it, and nothing will get caught on the drum.

Wow that XC track will be one big mother rut by the time the beginners get to it and I feel really bad for the pros who have to do three laps! This is gonna rock!

It won't be that bad. I imagine if there is a break in weather Donny & crew will be out moving dirt, same as the did the week before the inaugural season race.

Course will be in good condition. The worst that can happen is a rain rut that everyone has to ride around! Better for those with skilz

I'm married! Everything is ALREADY my fault! I'll start building the STR ark just in case. Just to get it right, I only have to let two Iron Horses on right?

I am actually going to change from 2.35 to 2.1. You really need a dedicated mud tire to have any hopes of having real traction. I'm not sure how much actual mud will be on the course though...most of it is pretty sandy.

Thanks,
That's my old teammate, Hank Cadle. (edit: Lee beat me to it )

I rode Southridge this morning and noticed this weekend someone decided to ride a dirt bike through the first single-track section (after the water-tower).......the dirt-bike tracks were still nice and fresh....This person(s) tore up the nice hard-pack dirt in some of the sections so they are now back to sand.........

They didn't start until late last time. I'd say, 130pm? It's after the Super-D race which starts after the XC race. Be prepared anytime after noon.
See you there!
