Default Mt. Wilson Shuttle run

Hello Everyone,

Meet at JPL parking lot sometime in the morning and head on up. Shooting for 8AM but I'm flexible.

I will be bringing a DH bike but this will be a hiker/everyone else using the trail, friendly ride as are all that I host up here.

I have done my best to promote our thing as a responsible sport and plan to continue that in the hopes that this great ride will remain open to us for years to come.

I can provide detailed info regarding the ride if you like.

Thanks!

Looking forward to riding with all of you.

Mott

Default Ultimate!

If you want to see the San Gabes... do this ride. We're gonna see it all. Top to bottom, the full menu. Bring yer huevos, gonna need 'em for severe exposure (that means cliffs) and sketchy singletrack! Not for the un-initiated... or my chicken legs, but we'll make it!

And when Marty said He can't wait to ride with all of you, He didn't mean All 500 of you!

Default Route?

Are you riding down Mt. Wilson trail or back down to JPL?

AM or DH bikes? How much climbing and how many people will be pushing up? Need to know what bike to bring......

5" to 6" is fine. Bigger is funner but there are two push up sections unless your in better shape than me.

Congrats on the podium yesterday!

Thanks! We've done Mt. Wilson/Mt. Lowe on the DH bikes and there was lots of hiking.

The 2nd time we did Sturdevant and some other trail on AM bikes and the ride ended up on a very steep climb on the road (that's all I remember).

some of the crew likes to thrown in the El Prieto option. That certainly gives you a good fireroad climb. I usually opt out of that one.

IMO, a DH bike is overkill. Not sure what route the group is going on but most likely, it will the Merrils, followed by Sunset and EP. There's a little bit of climbing from Echo Mtn. to Sunset (.8 of a mile and 200 feet). Another climb (1 mile and 300 feet) from Millard Campgroud to the El Prieto trailhead. All in all, probably no more then 700-800 feet of climbing all day. An AM bike is best, I think.

Sturdevent and all neighboring trails are awesome. The only sucky part is that bitch of a pavement climb at the end. It's about a mile and 400 feet up. Ouch!

Edit: Correction, it's .70 miles and 400 feet up. I rode it Upper/Lower Winter Creek today and measured the pavement climb from the bottom of the canyon to the lot. As usual, it sucked. Especially the 2nd half.

We can try, but we might have some folks heading up from the OC. That would be seriously early for them.

Let's see what happens.

I think the only parts I haven't done are the Mt. Lowe and Upper Merrill trails. How much scarier are those than Sunset? I had no problem with Sunset and EP, but don't want to hold you guys back if I'm a chicken shit on the other sections.

Sunset is the best... There are a few turns on San Merrill that cause so problems for some... you will love it.

Done! Can't wait for this. Hey, never done a shuttle run before. My car is completely shuttle-useless (Acura RSX-S with no rack). Do we need to take that into account? I also might bring 2-3 more guys, but one of those guys has a Tacoma so he could shuttle some bikes too (if he goes).
