Over the Hill
![]() |
The only reason not to pedal up to Upper Merrill is if you have a big bike. It is a tough climb but very doable. By the time you drive up the hill then back up and down again to get your cars you could knock off the climb.
Having rode Noble and Wilson, Noble is the more tech, but Wilson has the greater penality for mistakes. Dean

I'll be carpooling from the Path with Darin and Danny, so that's 3 of us. There may be room for one more. Darin is driving.

I personally think the tech spots are more so on this ride then Noble, but they are shorter. Very similar in technical riding, except what has been mentioned with the exposure. (It's a long ways down)

Heads up there is a new Shuttle service for San Gabriel's http://www.shuttle-run.com/ . I just spoke to David (shuttle driver owner) this morning he says his van can carry 14 people and bikes, they make multiple round trips per day (1:15min up and down). Meeting place is at JPL parking lot off Windsor. This could be a good option for those of us who need a ride to the top.

He better keep it on the down low. You need to have a permit from the foresty service to operate a shuttle service into the forest and the told a friend of mone that looked into it "That ain't gonna happen".

Jojo- Do be afraid! I will slap an Iron Horse sticker on your frame. An honorary membership of sorts. Should make the trail much easier to navigate!

So far just Pain Freak and I in my truck. I have two maybe three spots for people and more for bikes. I've had eight bikes in the back but that is pushing it. Gas isn't cheap so I hope riders can kick in a little for the ride up. Mike has already offered to take me back up at the end.

It's already been stated by others on this thread, but i'd like to reiterate the importance of breaking up into smaller sub-groups for this ride and staggering yourselves out down the mountain. You've got a monster list of riders RSVP'd here. Have fun.

As I said before I do not completely trust the thermometer up at the Wilson observatory but it is currently reporting that that temp is 40 degrees F.
I can see the observatory lights from my backyard and one thing that is for certain is that the wind has kicked up considerably. The current temp here is 65F. Please consider wearing something warm. You can always take it off but you cant make it appear if you never brought it. Goggles would also be a nice thing to have. If you do not own a pair let me know and I will see if I have any extra in the garage. looking forward to seeing all of you! Mott |
