Default Got vacation time to burn? Let's RIDE!

Our company stopped rolling over unused vacation time, so this year it's paid out instead. While it's illegal for them to require us to take vacation, we can't have more than an hour or two of unused vacation by the end of the year.

Since we both had a day left, we figured we'd go ride!

Who's in? Wed. December 5. We're planning on staying local. Training ride in the Santa Ana's, jaunt up to Idyllwild. Let's figure something out!

We can't afford a weekend away, and will basically be spending most weekends doing training for VQ.

So, we're just taking a day to go out and ride, clear our heads from work for a change!

Yes, I hear you. It is still open right now. The weather is holding right now but it will only take one decent storm to shut the road. Cedar Creek is calling. If it does rain there are other trails that we can ride. Come on up.

PS - Sorry to sidetrack your thread Allison. Dean made me do it.

Not necessarily! We could be talked into a nice long fun ride also.

I'd rather get the day of pay, but don't want to get fired over it. Oh wait, that isn't legal!

I get Wednesday's off. Idyllwild sounds fun. Should have the new bike built by then.

Idywild would be fun but cold if the rides early morning. I'm so used to riding on my own that if the rides open to all it'd be great to actually be out somewhere with other people. THe solitude is nice but you've gotta be careful when and where you ride. I always have the image of a mountain lion on my tail for some reason.

this ride may or may not turn out to be a massive ride of death.

i have been toying with the idea of doing the 4+ hr climb from Hemet to the top of Thomas Mtn. i would definitely rank that as a massive ride of death.

I'm up for a death march training ride. This past weekend showed me how much I really need to step my game up.

Default I'm impressed...

Yep that'd be a death ride. The most I usually do in the saddle is 90 to 120 minutes...mostly because I've not been able to find much local that takes longer and I'm too chicken to get to far into the mountains on my own. (Not really a smart thing to do anyways)

Well if you guys decide not to do a death ride I'm in...if you do well I think I'll have to pass as I need ALOT more training before that sort of ride.

...I would probably actually DIE on one of your guys death ride.

Let me know what you guys decide on.

Aight.. I think the route I want to do is start out at the parking lot for San Juan (the lower lot!).

Climb San Juan, climb up to Blue Jay, climb from the campground up to Trabuco Trail. Descend Trabuco.. then depending on how every one feels and what time it is, climb up West Horsethief, or climb up Holy Jim (that creates an additional 10~miles of fire road climbing, so it's gonna have to be early still, otherwise it's a 1mi hike a bike). Then we'll descend back down to Blue Jay and do the lollipop loop back down to the cars.

I might be up for this... .I just did Chiquita on TG day, and would love to see more in the area. What kind of mileage are we talking? It's a 200 mile round trip for me to do this one, but it sounds worthwhile!

Old San Juan Trail is around 18, up to Blue Jay is probably another 3 there and back (6 total). Up to Trabuco from there is probably another 10 round trip.. Trabuco will be around 5 to WHT, up WHT is another 1.5-2.

So, I'm guessing it'll be around... 42 miles?
