Default City of Irvine Wilderness Access Day Location Change

Just a head's up for anyone who might be planning on riding the area during the wilderness access day this Saturday.

The location is different this time due to another event taking place at the Bommer Canyon Staging area.

The Wilderness Access Day will start from the Quail Hill Trail Head located at 34 Shady Canyon Drive (near the 405 Fwy and Sand Canyon).

The rest is the same as before......show up, get your day use permit and ride the area self-guided.

The event this Saturday goes from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Just a F.Y.I.

Thanks

Good fire roads similar to Westridge but with lots more rollies, and Great single tracks....each one with some fun tech sections.

The nice thing is that you can make a really nice ride if you wish because you can connect it to Laguna Coast and El Moro.

Look me up if you come out there, and I'll show you the trails.

This sounds interesting..........how do I get a day use permit, and if it's "self guided", were do I get a trail map? Is this info posted anywhere on the web?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

adam said they'll have maps when you check in. online registration is available but w/ 285 spots (last i checked) there should be ample room if you decide to show up.

thanks- I might need to make this- the quail hill start point is about a 10 minute ride from my house. I've been wanting to ride that ridge for ages especially after doing work up there for Cingular (cell site on one of the lattice towers)

I was on the legal part, Serano I think last Saturday, coming from Bommer. . Did see the Irvine Wilderness signs up on the fire roads....and I obeyed ARGH!

Hard to do when you are just riding along and you come to a FIREROAD T junction.

Not sure if I can do this one, but have been riding Nix and so forth since I live close (maybe a mile).

So we just show up to get a trail map JAMR?

How many single tracks are over there just under the toll road and up a bit to the left?

Thanks....

When all's said and done, there will be two single-tracks going down into Shady Canyon from Serrano Ridge, and another a short ways up what we have listed as the Quail Trail. When the entire infrastructure is completed and the trails are implemented, and other areas restored; there will be a series of four single-tracks that will all converge together down in Shady Canyon. Each one with a different nature, but each with some pretty nice technical features of their own.

The good news is that shortly you won't have to turn around on Serrano Ridge because we will be opening a loop to where you can continue on Serrano Ridge and loop back to the Stagecoach North Trail back to the Nix Nature Center.

The single-tracks down into Shady Canyon will still be for Docent Let tours or accessed on the Wilderness Access days, but Serrano Ridge for a full loop will be open 7 days a week from 7:00 am until sunset.

As soon as Chopper and I can get the signs and posts in place, we will open the loop. The posts weigh in at 300 lbs for the dual post assembly, so we may be putting out a call for some volunteers when we get the materials in, and get ready to start installing them.

I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

Thanks

Will Rabbit Run be open, or is it closed because of the "unauthorized" work (damage) done to it?

slowSSer - you must live in Oak Creek or Quail Hill then?

I ride from Oak Creek to El Moro frequently. Of course, I have to bypass Bommer, so I end up going down the 133 through Nix.

It'll be pretty nice being able to ride all the way to the ocean from Irvine

Rabbit Run is open again, and we'll be working out some potential trail work dates to get the other two single-tracks open shortly.
