Fullerton trails closed by rain
By BARBARA GIASONE The Orange County Register FULLERTON — City maintenance crews have asked the public to stop using the city trail system until the rainy season subsides. Serious erosion, especially to the downhill trail portions, has been reported at four areas: • Panorama Trail: The steep uphill from Bastanchury Road to the view portion overlooking Coyote Hills Golf Course. • Nora Kuttner Trail: Adjacent to Armstead Lane and near Parks Road. • Brea Dam: Several problem areas including the portion north of the tunnel at Bastanchury Road, the steep downhill behind the Fullerton Tennis Center and directly behind the Fullerton Sports Complex. • Hiltscher Park Trail: The natural wash was overwhelmed by water and caused severe erosion along the secondary trail and the steep downhill across Euclid Street, up to Fern Drive. City Landscape Superintendent Dan Sereno encourages residents who notice problem areas to call (714) 738-6897. |

Looks like I won't be riding through there on my way to work anytime soon. What a crappy holiday weekend: it hasn't stopped raining, my knee's busted, my girlfriend gave me her cold, and I lost my $ playing poker. I've been laying in bed all day watching crappy movies on cable and praying that the Northridge Trail in Chino Hills hasn't slid out of existence.
I read the other thread and realized my weekend could've been a lot worse and I have nothing to complain about. Glad you guys made it out alive. I can probably help out with the search. |

It's still muddy. The whole golf course area before the tunnels is covered in mud.

Rode most of the Loop today, and it's in surprisingly good shape. Knowing the golf course/dam area was a nightmare, I just continued straight over the RR bridge. Lost a mile or so, but the bike and trail were better for it.
As for the part I rode... ...the bit just before Hiltscher is still a bit soggy, and there are a couple small puddles spread along the route--besides that, no mud. More sand than usual, but that's to be expected. Also a few new ruts, but all avoidable. |
