Default Holy Jim Night ride

Seriously doubt my wife will let me ride on Thanksgiving. She hasn’t in the past.

So how does Holy Jim sound on Wednesday night 11-21?

If you have not ridden HJ at night it is a real treat. Thinking of just doing an up and back.

One riding bud so far gave it a thumbs up.

Anyone else?

***EDIT***

Meet @ Cooks 5:30pm and fit as many bikes per vehicle as possible. Also having a pot luck so bring some food!

Just rode Holy Jim today with Slayer and there are a few down trees at about the 1 mile mark from the trail head of HJ. Since you'll be going up it first, you'll know they're there so you won't run into them at night. We moved 2 but 1 is too heavy, needs to be cut. You can carry your bike over but it disrupts your flow coming down. The other is just a bunch of branches, but they are very slippery, you can easily wash out there. we had no time to move so we kept climbing.

Want me to talk to your wife for you? I'll tell her you'll be home by 11am and that you'll do dishes for a week.

Hey all, I've never ridden Holy Jim... much less at night. My new Niterider light is finally arriving today and I'm itching to break it in! Is Holy Jim mostly singletrack?

Hello everyone I'm new here and this ride sounds good, I have only ridden HJ once at the Toad Festival and I am a slow poke. Do you guys ride fast? also anyone have a light I can borrow? I have never ridden at night before, or know of a good deal anywhere on one? cheers,
Tom

In my opinion, the switch to night riding was comparable to the jump from road to dirt. It takes a few rides to get the hang of it. I'd consider Holy Jim to be one of the more dangerous night rides in the area because of the switchbacks & exposure.

You should show up to one of the Fullerton Loop, or Blackstar-Beeks rides for practice before taking on the Holy Jim ride.

As for light....you can get away with a $100, 10watt halogen for the rides mentioned above, but for Holy Jim you'd want to go with a more expensive light, such as a HID ($280 minimum); especially because you need more than 2 hours of battery. I haven't seen the LED lights to see if they are on the same level as HID. Don't show up to ride with a $30 commuter light.

I should have posted that this is not a "first time night ride" or "first time on Holy Jim ride".

Thanks Winger!

Couldn't agree more. HJ is tough going up and coming down during the day let alone at night.

Default Ok...

Let's get a final head count

Meet at Cooks 5:30 to car pool or at the trail head parking lot at 6:00ish. WE ARE NOT RIDING THE DIRT ROAD. I will bring my truck so if you need a ride send me a PM

Pot luck at the end of the ride. Chips and Salsa.....stuff like that. Be creative and bring some good eats

I got the cooler packed and am picking up a TOGOS plate for the trail head after party. Can't hardly wait. What a cool way to kick off Thanksgiving

I have room for 3 additional bikes and riders in the Jeep
