Default Climbing to SART

Steppie and I are Climbing up to SART.

Meet at 8am Loch Leven climb John Elloit Trail to Angeles Oaks. Do the Post Office Loop to Middle Control Road and figure what is next. Climb Middle Control and back down or continue on the SART for more miles.

Don't let the climb from Loch Leven scare you off it is not that bad and is a screeming fast downhill to end the ride. I never have taken my GPS on the climb I think it is 800-1000 ft and maybe 6 miles. Nothing steep very SS friendly.

The turn off to Loch Leven is well marked (Mt. Home Creek Road). Go to Mentone and head up to Angles Oaks turn left and go up the hill a little ways and there is a parking area. If you see Mill Creek Ranger Station or the turnoff to Forest Falls you went to far.

Mexican Food after in Forest Falls.

This sounds like a fun ride. Loch Levin is a hoot to ride. PM me when you make it back up here.

I'm not sure what day I'm going to ride. I promised the wife I'd only ride one weekend day this week. I really do like this ride though. I'll try and fix my ss and see if I can swing it.

Adds another 12 miles onto the regular route. I do it for something different and I like to finish the ride on a nice long downhill.

Any idea of total ride time for the most likely scenarios on this ride? I've never done SART or any other trails in this area. Thanks.

Hey , if you feel like doing this ride again in the near future, I know a couple others that will tag along.
Lacey and I are gonna be in Fontucky this weekend, so we'll have to hit the next one.

if the ride is 4-6 hours long, how many stops do you have planned? every hour? 2 hours? average speed/pace?

We usually don't plan that ahead of time, we just stop as the group needs it. This is a fun ride not a "fast as you can go grind." The skills of the group will determine the pace.

Regroups, short lunch...if we stop too long it is hard to get started again. Pace will be moderate to slow, except Jose, he only seems to know one speed...
