I'm pretty sure you still need to climb the fireroad.

The climb up Old Highway 38 also called John Elliot trail is something like 6 miles to the Post Office. It is a moderate climb with a short hike-a-bike where one of the old bridges washed out. At somepoint we will need to ride up Middle Control Road to get back to Angeles Oaks. So there is two climbs, neither of them very hard.

Yes the end of the ride is 6 miles down to Loch Leven. Then to Forest Falls for Mex food.

It's been a long time since I've done this ride, and since most of my OTB buddies are riding south of the border this weekend, I may head out. I'll have to confirm tomorrow though, as it's quite a drive from where I'll be coming.

I totally agree. They don't all have to be in the Santa Ana's. I've done 1 at Aliso and I'm actually doing 1 in the San Gabes and another in Marshall Canyon. For me, The Santa Ana's is close to where I live and I'm also giving riders a chance to get familiar with the course/climbs so when they ride it for real, they know what's ahead of them. I also work on Sundays. Most of the riders I'm training with live in OC as well. I would love to train in the San Bernadino Mts like SART, but I can't gauge a routes distance and climbs if I've never ridden it. I like to be able to lay out a route for those who who want to join me or in the case of Marshall Canyon, bring someone one knows a good route. I would love to join you in a VQ/CC training ride at SART, schedule it and I'm there

Ditto to what Gene said. It's convenient. We don't have much of a choice, and don't want to drive 3 hours to get to a different set of mountains. Besides, I really like being so familiar with the course that I know what to expect around every corner. Then I can be on auto-pilot and not worry about what is ahead, or how much further I have to go to the next turn, etc.

Also, as soon as Main Divide opens past Beek's I'd like to get out there and do a baseline. Doesn't seem like that will happen.

I guess I won't have any idea until race day if I can make the cut offs.

Allison I think everyone but YOU knows you're going to make the cut offs.

While I appreciate the confidence you have in me, I *really* need to be faster for the cut offs! It's not the first one I'm worried about.. We'll see in March, unless the entire forest opens up before that.

At any rate, SART I'm sure will be wonderful for you guys this weekend. Enjoy!

I'm in. Is the parking lot right at Loch Leven or just before?

There are the same place, there is a closed gate right after Loch Leven. As I remember the trailhead parking lot is small maybe 5-6 places, but more places to park along the road.

Dean, call me when you guys leave Green River...that will give me a good idea of where/when to meet up along the way.

I will be doing the SART going the other direction. Top to bottom. We did bottom to top a month or so ago. Maybe we will pass you on the way down. Happy trails.
