Moot point here jsut for the sake of interest: As we're in the land of the free what harm would it be to let anyone into these areas (no motorbikes because they are capable of trashing alot of new trails into now burnt areas) if there was a sign up warning you of the dangers - then wouldnt personal responsibility be OK?!
(I'm assuming no one is heading off trails and causing erosion/habitat issues) Thoughts?

Can I be Tony Alemeda? The guy is coming back this year as a bad guy!!! I though he was dead but I think its Tony's evil twin brother. Not to get off topic but I love that show and for that one hour on Monday nights I don't talk to nobody or answer any calls.

During the Weir Canyon fire, earlier this year, someone posted about the freshly charred earth containing chemicals that were really bad to breathe.

Last Tuesday I drove Santiago Canyon Road and the smell of smoke was still quite strong.

So....maybe Main Divide is closed because it still isn't safe to breathe the air next to the freshly charred earth.

I was out at HJ today, there was a huge dust cloud over the north end of the Main Divide. I can only assume that they are still doing work up there and that's why those sections are closed. I was told by the ranger that there were heavy equipment, bulldozers and such still up there. The portion of the Main Divide south of Lower HJ was grated maybe to make it easier for firetrucks to drive along the MD. Equipment on the MD may explain the dust clouds today.

2 paragraph response:I had a great response to all this BS but I just hit a button and lost it. Here's the deal, this ride has blown up to be the Tuesday Night crew hater thread. Give it a rest, 90% percent of the people don't show up for the rides anyway.

Blackstar was open when we talked about it last week at the bar, if its closed now so be it its closed. Most of us that ride in the middle of the night know that we shouldn't poach. I don't think we have ever poached. If we did, we would be riding something other than the bitch of a ride Santa Ana's every week.

Jeff you're a Tuesday night rider and I hate you for it. A lot. The boy Bauer told me that you should expect to see a little red dot on your jersey next time you try and night ride out there. There may also be some anti-personel mines on the way up to Blackstar. You've been warned sonny!

Here's the deal, this ride has blown up to be the Tuesday Night crew hater thread.

i dont think thats true. everyone is just trying to share the info on whats open/closed. thats it. post something (ride, question, comment on any topic) that others have info on and you're likely to get a lot of returned posts. its not an attack, its a number of people sharing info.

so, what is the word? is it okay to park on blackstar road near the tree farm and ride our bicycles in and up blackstar and turnaround at beeks? this is getting confusing.

Currenty Trabuco District shows Blackstar Canyon closed to vehicles...Open to hiking and biking.

I just don't believe you can go past Beeks place towards Motorway.

The forest service appears to be keeping their website fairly current on the closure status.

Add: Still somewhat confusing. Beeks place shows closed so the assumption would be that you can ride from the bottom gate to the top gate and back.

Erm...........Arent you missing an opportunity to let people know which trails arent legal??? I know a lot of people who ride trails that are out of bounds and they dont know better. If you jsut delete the thread then your opportunity to educate jsut got flushed away.

As a side note - I've never seen that list before but some of those things are a little bit churlish, this isnt a police state you know - its the internet.

of course we Americans never have typo's.

Glad to see everyone's sense of humor is still intact. I will call The ranger's office at 8am when they open and update this thread on openings and closures. As far as Black Star Canyon Rd, that would be a county thing and not the Cleveland National Forest that controls parking along the road.
