Justin and Allison, Candace and I won't need to carpool...we are staying at Newport Beach. Thanks for the carpool offer. We are still debating on the ride as Candace still has some metal trying to escape...I think she would be up for the 12 miler, I don't know about the 17 with almost an additional 1,000 feet of climbing. Which way are you guys leaning?

We'll definitely be splitting up, as I'm sure some of the group wants the extra mileage and is fast enough to knock it out. I'd be up for the extra mileage, but I know that not everyone will be. So, us slowpokes or injured folks will ride up possibly after the fast guys take off and take our time. I'll take some photos. If we get bored we can head out behind cocktail and ride a bit til we catch the fast guys and come back. It may be cold if it isn't sunny, so we'll want to keep moving anyway.

It's required to park in National forest land.
http://www.sgwa.org/pass.htm
Its' $30 and you can pick them up at REI, Sport Chalet, Etc. They always give tickets at the San Juan parking lot. Some may not agree with the fee, but the proceeds are used to maintain and build facitities at these parking areas. If you decide to risk a ticket, keep in mind that parking ticket penalties go into a general fund and the national forests do not see any of this.

If you don't have time (or just plain forget) to get a pass ahead of time, you can pay at the trail head.

Only at certain lots where there is some manned facility (like Chantry Flats) and usually not on the weekdays. I don't think you can at San Juan. It's too remote. And I don't remember Noble having one either.

Also, remember, if you get a ticket it is only for the fee you should have paid in the first place. After 30 days it becomes a fine, I am not sure how much though.

True, there isn't a manned booth where you would pay, however, there is a drop off box at the SJT trailhead. Just place the money in the provided envelope, write down your license plate number and drop if off in the deposit box. But as you said, not all facilities have this feature.

Not anymore. The last couple of times I went, they got rid of the envelope system. You can probably get a Adventure Pass @ the Candy Store...but I doubt they'll be open tomm.

San Juan has an envelope/drop box at the lower trailhead where you can drop in $5 for the day.

!f you forget you may get a ticket. Just mail the five bucks and then head to REI. I just went today to get my new pass today. I however should have just paid the $5.00 ticket. Damn REI sales! Oh well, $300.00 later I have a adventure pass and some other crap my wife says I didn't need. Whatever!

If anyone is lacking an adventure pass or worried about not enough parking; I can take a total of three bikes in my truck if anyone needs a carpool.

The parking lot near Bravo Burgers at the south/east corner of Ortega and Rancho Viejo has plenty of parking.

Let me know, and I'd be happy to drive.

I'll be wearing my STR jersey, on a white 1x1 with lots of pink bits. Say hello so we can all introduce ourselves and head up the hill!

I'll meet at Bravo. I have a pass but maybe save some gas. How about 7:15?
