Default San Gabriels Grand reopening ride

Climb Gabrielino Switzers to Red Box, up the road to top of Mt. Disappointment, down singletrack to Markman Saddle, Lowe Fireroad to Easton Saddle, climb Mt Wilson Pavement to top of Mt. Wilson, down Rattlesnake to Gabrielino to West Fork Campground, up Rincon Red Box Fireroad to Red Box then down Gabrielino to Switzers.
How's about a 8:30am start time. meeting at Switzers parking lot.

Thanks for posting it. One correction:the campground at the bottom is West Fork. I don't think we'll make it all the way to SART.

I'd like to check out more of the San Gabriels, and this sounds like the perfect opportunity.

Is the Switzers I'm looking for just off Angeles Crest, shortly after the Angeles Forest intersection?

That is the one Dell, if you want we can car pool from OC. I am guessing about 20 miles...it is going to be the climbing that will be tough. Switzers is 3287 Mt. Wilson 5647. Then we drop down to West Fork 3059 and back up to Red Box 4623. Looks to be about 4,000ft of climbing...and that does not count up and over Mt. Disapointment which I am going to skip and take the pavement up.

[SIZE=3]Ouch,my thighs are hurting just thinking about this back country ride/loop. Sounds like a ride for masochistic people like SB and company. Definitely not for the weak or the whiners.

I guess I'm out!

210 freeway exit Angeles Crest Highway (aka highway 2) and turn towards the mountains. Switzers Camp is located 1/4 mile from the junction of Angeles Crest Highway & Angeles Forest Highway just past the Ranger station. Its about 10 miles after you get off the 210 and should be marked on the right hand side.

Dont forget your adventure pass.

that helps the ouch factor, the only thing that would make it even better...shuttle out the Switzer to Redbox climb/hike at the beginning... I guess another option would be to climb the 4 - 5 miles on the pavement...
