I was trying to make it, but my boys and I were at the shooting range and we had a blast. Freekin 9mm rounds are very expensive now.

everthing went great. Nathan and I arrived at 11:30 and I was under the impression you were going to be be there, but it wasn't a deal as the shock was set up perfect for him to ride, so he rode the chumba and I rode the stinky. We played around on the 4x track learning to pump and jump.
At around 12:45 Ricky and Cameron(?) arrived and both of them showed us noobs up on the 4x. A few minutes later Jojo got there and had a pump on hand and I was able to get my shock all set up and ride my evo for the first time. Everyone else got there around the same time sharky, speckledtrout, et cetera. We all played around on the 4x track for about a half hour and had one run from the top of it. From my understanding Jojo fell and patched himself up and later left before we got to the DH (not from his injuries I dont think, but because of his wife/girlfriend[correct me if I am wrong]). We started the long hike up the mountain. Nathan and I were always in the back as his bike is a bit too big for him and needed help pushing it up. We stopped at a 10'-15' roller that Ricky and a few minutes later I rolled it (Ricky also hucked it). Also at the same spot Cameron and Ricky hucked of a little rock about 2' high (I didn't like the take off, I prefer drop offs). It is amazing what that kid can do on his tiny bmx bike. We continued hiking up the mountain til we got to the little jump which leads to the hill with the rock garden and started jumping. I seriously thought a couple of people were going to endo bad, but saved them sevles. When Nathan got ready for the jump I warned him he would see a few rocks after the jump, but not to worry about them since with the air he would not even touch them. Well, on his run the rocks spooked him a little and he watched them as he flew over them only to look up and realize he had tuned his wheel sideways. His backend flopped back and fourth for about 20' before he fell over scraping his elbow and hitting his head pretty hard (thank God for full faced helmets). He had a headache, but walked it off. I was very proud that he even did the jump as it was his first time mountain biking and the basically walked everything else. Oh, I forgot to mention that Cameron almost got ran over by a jerk on the same jump. Don't know if the guy saw cameron or not in front of him, but had Camerons small tires got stuck or he fell, it would not have been pretty. I can understand that this is a mountain bike specific area, but if people ride like that where there are hikers I can see why they would be complaining. After the jumps we headed back down the course and did a couple jumps on the 4x track before going home. Overall it was a great day and I think everybody had a really good time. |

i had a great time. i must admit that i was under the impression that it was gonna be more drop offs, etc. but i was fine with all of it. i don't think you gave me that impression ricky, i think i convinced myself that's what it was. regardless of that, i had a ton o' fun as it's all still time on the bike and having a good time. that was the first time i've ever been on a pump track, so i thought that was a blast. rockin' (ricky) you're a very patient guy, the way you kept trying to talk me through the technical setup of jumping. you have earned some very good karma. and cameron was a riot. that little tater tot is too much. I can't speak for Sharky, but I found it a little humiliating getting jumping tips from a 10 year old riding on 20 inch wheels until i put my ego down for a nap. so thanks for arranging it ricky. i'd love to do it again. maybe with graduating drop offs or something? something we can build on as we progress during the session?

I was beat. That is why I said to stop by my house on the way so I can set up your bike. That was kind of my Im not going clue. ha ha I was also saying wear all your pads and stuff. I would have liked to have been there to help with the jumping . Well maybe next time I will be able to make it. I will be looking for good places to take people to learn to do drops.

STR Veteran Joined: Dec 2006 From: Anaheim Hills Thanks earned: 592 You need a fox shock pump. To get one of those you will have to call me in the morning and I will have to set up your bike on the way to your ride. What time are you heading to the windy city of fontucky? Be prepared for dust storms and mid air drifting. That is what it was like today. It might be just as windy tomorrow. Your shock air pressure should be within 10 psi of your body weight The bottom out reservoir should from 75 - 100 depending on how you like your bike to ride. A safe place would be in the middle. Really big thanks to Ricky (Rokinthecasbah) and Sharky for taking the time out to hold a clinic for anyone looking to brush up on some skills or even learn some basic ones.
I second sprekledtrout's comment, defninitely good karma for Ricky and Sharky for being so patient and though it wasnt what everyone planned out to be (seems that everyone was trying to learn something different so we were bouncing around a lot which was fine with me-you cant please all of the people all of the time) it was still fun and i still managed to learn a few more advanced things from some DH guys that we met there and got to mee to some new STR peeps: Chauvanist Youth, Sprekeledtrout, DavidB, Katonk, Rockinthecasbah, JoX2 and Sharky ![]() ![]() ![]() It was defninitely humbling to see little man tearing up the track on his 16" wheels and to be honest, that was a bit of a motivator to try some jumps-if he can do all that on a no suspension bike what am i waiting for on a full suspension bike. There were a few spills but nothing to bad which was good. Im glad to hear the JoJo left due to a phone call and not because of his spill-would hate to see anyone scared off due to taking a spill...it happens and the only way to get better is to get up, rub a little dirt on it and go faster the next time ![]() On a good note, JoJo almost saved that one-he rode a pretty long nose wheelie and if i didnt know any better i might have thought he was breaking out some avanced level tricks!!! All in all, good times and i think that if next time the people planning to attend (myself included) make it more clear what we are looking to learn and willing to try it will be easier for the Vets to put together a better class and to distinguish what type of riding it will be so that people will know whether it is complete beginer or a rider thats ready to move to more advanced and technical drops/jumps. ![]()

Oh no this was all Ricky's event and thanks to him. I was just giving a heads up about that first jump past the berm on the 4X track if you don't know to hit it on the right that lip isn't as bad but can buck ya good if you're not ready for it. Learned the hard way my first time there but Ryan and Todd have especially been great coaches for me in the past. I was there to improve and have fun so again thanks to Ricky. He gave me some good pointers.
Cool meeting you Do Work was awesome watching you nail that rocky drop section on the DH above our jump...you definitely have more advanced skills.
