Default Tour De Aliso

With all the trails in the Santa Ana's still closed, this VQ/CC training ride will be held at Aliso. Not much of any long sustained climbs, but lots of little ones. Here is the route:

Meet at the main parking lot, head over and up Meadows, go to Top of the World, down Mathis, over to Dripping Cave, Back up Wood Canyon to Coyote, up Rock-it, down Lynx, up Cholla, back down Rock-it, Coyote, up Mathis to TOTW, back down Meadows and back to cars. We will hit every up and overs twice along the West Ridge and also the Single track along the backside of TOTW. The pace will be intermediate/advance. There will be plenty of bailouts along the way if you can't complete the "TOUR". This about endurance and not speed.

Here is the geoladders route that is similar, but my tour does Mathis and Rock-it in both directions:

http://www.geoladders.com/gmap_display.php?route_id=93&walk_thru=1

Meet at 8am, ride by 8:30(we can always start earlier if the group decides)

Where: Aliso and Wood Canyon main parking lot

Eat at "Sharkeys" afterwards

Hope to see you there!

Here the geoladders route. Same start and finish, but we'll go down Mathis, then up Rock-it and down Lynx. That adds about 3 1/2 miles and about 700 ft of climbing. With the other extra credits, I'm guessing no more than 25 miles with about 3200+ ft of gain.

The short block 8 is a good tire for this ride. There's nothing too technical & these tires are fast. I'm running a set on my 29er SS and love 'em.

Can't start earlier, others are joining us who aren't on this forum. We'll just have to deal the crowd, it won't be that bad, afterall the VQ will have 300 riding at the same time.

Only a portion of Cleveland will open. The Forest service will put out a map of which portion later today. It would be too late to schedule a ride for the Santa Ana's then change it last minute if the portion we chose is not open.

Black Star will probably remain closed as the road was still closed unless you are a resident even after they opened Santiago Canyon Rd. The Motorway was Bulldozed during the fire. Here is a portion of the email we received;

Fortunately the fires have had minimum effect on our 2008 schedule of Events; the fires did not reach any of the single track trails. Debra Clark, the Forest Service Trails Manager, emailed me to let me know that as a precautionary measure the Fire Authorities apparently bulldozed a firebreak straight down to the bottom of the Silverado Motorway and not on the existing trail as we originally were told. They also created another access from Harding to Main Divide road as well. We will be working with the Forest Service to re-vegetate these areas to protect against erosion.
