Default El Moro Closed 11/3

I wanted to ride my CX bike at El Morro this afternoon, but, when I rode to the Ridge Park entrance, there was a sign saying that the trails were closed due to fire danger.
I know that they were expecting dry conditions and high winds, but those conditions never materialized today.
When I got to the gate at around 5 PM, there were no winds, just a cool ocean breeze.
I know they were open yesterday, as I did a nice trail run there after work.
If anybody was planning on riding there tomorrow, make sure you check before you go.

that is weird, but as of now laguna coast wilderness is open (at least according to their site). if you enter from ridge park rd., stay on bommer ridge and trails south and/or east of fenceline and you should be okay.

Very Weird. I rode there today, doing a AW,EM, LW thingy and left there around 1pm. Not a problem... We came in off Laguna Canyon and just dipped in there for a bit....

Default Unfortunately, grasshoppers

The rangers at El Moro have a history of closing the park on the slightest of pretenses. If somebody spits too much they close the park due to "muddy conditions". The rangers liked it a lot more 15 years ago before mountain bikers took over the park. Back then, it was a sleepy little park. They basically had very little to do... then the bikers came and the rangers had to constantly go into the back country to rescue riders... they started giving ticket out to people daring to ride when they were told to walk a certain section of the main canyon. Too many times that particular park has been closed for very weak reasons. When Ranger Larry was there, he made it plain that he really didn't like mountain bikers ... he retired and we were hoping that the situation would improve ... I'm still waiting....

Ya Foo. I was bummed when my buddies went flying by me at the entrance. Wanted to hang out for a bit and meet more of you guys...

We did 23 miles on both sides. Hope your ride was good

Thanks OMR for the history lesson; It's good for us to know what's happened before now....

I rode with a group through the Ridge Park side. The PCH gates were closed but not the Laguna Canyon side.
