Chantry to Wilson 10/21/07
Today's Ride: Chantry/Wintercreek/Mt. Wilson DEATH CLIMB!
Total Distance: 12.1 miles (Felt like 30) Total Climb: 2,581 feet (Felt like 25,000) The Crew- Grandpa, SheClimbs, Henry, Vic, Slappy, SlowSpokes, Sprockethead, Dirtmistress, DStepper (aka Steppie), Pain Freak, Hanzo, StJunkie and Dino Brown StJunkie and Steepie decided we should should try a route we had never done before- Chantry to Wintercreek to Wilson. Greeeeeat! What we were treated to was 2,400 feet of climbing in 4 miles.  An entree of hike-a-bike was on the menu. Pretty tough. Once at the top, we ate, drank, laughed and prepared for the narrow, chunky and technical roller coaster known as WILSON! I would say (while most trails in the SG's have narrow trails and steep drop offs), this is the one trail in the San Gab's that makes me nervous. In spots, the drops are straight down!!!! Almost forgot, we rode a few miles of pavement in order to return to our vehicles. Loved that part!!!!! Yes, it was downhill. Just wanted to get the thread started. I will update my impressions.... route... miles... etc. as soon as the info arrives. Thank You for your time..... Let's go... Were late!  Pain Freak being Pain Freak!   The Crew At Wintercreek  Pain Freak- 150 mile road ride one week... Death Climb the next!   My Hero's... Steppie, StJunkie and Pain Freak  STR's Living God (Steppie) with She Climbs  We made it- 2,400 feet in 4 miles (or less)  Grandpa- I came here to descend!!!! Well...   Why are we smiling? It's time to ride the roller coaster- that's why!!!  Hanzo in the chunk  Sprockethead in the chunk  A "baby" dropoff....  Pain Freak.... Steeper than it looks...

Good stuff, great people, great trail. No wind.
We seemed to have a few crashes but I do not think anything serious. Little trail side repair on Andy's bike and we were good to go. I only stopped twice to take pics, so just a couple from me and the GPS ride profile. As usually there are discrepancies between the GPS unit and my mapping software, I have no idea which is more accurate…hopefully somewhere in between the two. The numbers sited by Dino where from the unit

What else is there to say that hasnt already been said? Great trail, great weather, very nice people and
Steppie got air and I have witnesses! Nice to have met Lynn, Liz, Vic, Nick, Henry, and the infamous Pain Freak. Thank you to Lynn for the tasty grub.  All of these pics are on the way up to Mt Wilson. Scenery climbing upper winter creek.  Dirt Mistress railing  Henry on upper winter creek  STJunkie and Grandpa  Grandpa cranking  The Chantry Roller STJunkie  VTVic  Evil Eyes  me  Andy on the chunk   She climbs with that million dollar smile at a rest point  The group at the fork  Vic splitting the log  I wonder is this is the smile Mike was talking about???  This is one is for the Dirty Girls and the Trail Angels. I wanted to take a picture of the mountains and when I looked at the picture it looked like a heart.  Grandpa thinking about Grandma after seeing the heart.  Pain Freak JRA  Almost there.  Scott doing some trail maintenance.  Tim said it looked like a bear trap. Just move that one branch and the log is coming down.  the other side of the bear trap  Check out Good ol' Sleepy, errr I mean Speedy, errr I mean Slappy behind Lynn  Dino bringing it home  Dean Steppie at the top.  Taking a well deserved break at the top.  Dino chattin it up with some nice hikers.  The Gang. errr i mean group.  Part 2 is on the second page. |

Next time, point me to the shuttle on this ride. The DH was freakin' awesome, when we doing this again? Nice meeting Nick (awesome rider), Liz (Dirtmistress), Vic, and Enrique. Everyone else, good to see you again, I always like hitting up new dirt, the HAB was pretty halacious. Mike, I don't know how you could have enjoyed that.

Break at the top, Thank God!  Dino Brown coming down  Henry  Mike was showing me how to rail rocks  Liz going for an air ride  but redeems herself  Uhhh, r u serious? That's the trail!?
