Regardless of where you ride, if you ride faster 'than is safe for the conditions' you are at fault.
Use common sense when riding public trails. TREAD lightly. (look it up) * Roach- Trail Nazis? I think not. More like Stewards in a Preserve. Give it a rest bro. ![]() |

I fall a lot
|
I've never poached a trail, I don't own a bike with more than 4.5 inches travel, and don't have 1/2 the skills to freeride even if I did.
You still make me want to say things that could get me banned. Cheers to backspace.

According to the new brochures the PVPLC has out there, no one is allowed in the reserve "one hour after sunset or one hour before sunrise".
Don't go out there at night lest one of the "stewards" sees your light from a distance, you may be photographed and possibly educated on how to ride.

I finally got a chance to go to PV since the new trail designations have been posted.
Still enjoyed it, but noticed some sign vandalism on Ishibashi. At the bottom and on the map it is multipurpose use. But up on top, some joker put a line through the horse and bike symbol with a black marker. Hmmm. Also, I noticed the jump area is still present, but no signage as a trail or no trail. I have a feeling some other areas don't have signs, either. So the best thing is probably to keep out of unsigned areas. Make us look like responsible trail users.

It is obvious that vandalism to signs and posts with ropes is being carried out by the lowest class of human kind on a bicycle, hoof, or foot.
This class of individual will not engage in proactive work to promote multi-use trail access and delights in crapping on the efforts of useful people. If anybody happens to witness any act vandalism please let the low functioning culprit know that they are unwelcome since they obviously have a juvenile delinquents way of dealing with things and they are really pissing off the adults. Sniveling sign/trail vandals need a serious spanking since their efforts will be very effective in restricting any further access. Have a nice day and ride responsibly Last edited by ssisyphus; 07-22-2008 at 12:12 PM. Reason: PCness for the sensitive |

If Im reading this right, you were pretty quick to jump to the conclusion a biker did this act. I understand this is a very heated topic. But I get the general impression a hiker was to blame. And in reading your post u kind of sound like a hiker. Hmmmm....coincedence?

Uzzi,
I have been riding in PV for over 20 years and have spent many hours working on trails, attending PUMP meetings, writing letters on behalf of the mountain bike community in order to keep trails open. Others, especially Troy in the PV CORBA have contributed huge amounts of time. The reason I picked on bikers is not the example you chose but examples I have personally seen of no biking signs broken off, posts and ropes pulled out which closed off a popular drop-off trail, no biking stickers peeled off signs. Hmmmmm? Did the hikers do this? I think not. Sooo ... maybe instead of vandalism an upset mountain biker can join us on the next CORBA work day to make a real contribution to keeping trails open to mountain bikers. |

FYI: I can personally vouch for 'ssisyphus'.
* The Preserve is closed at night. Ride only MARKED trails that are approved for your activity at hand. Use common sense. Slow to a crawl around hikers. Stop around Equines and pass only when told to. Don't poach. Please. The rules are few and obvious. A little common sense goes a long ways. Ride safe and enjoy the fruits of others labor. ![]() I'll be up there this afternoon for a lil XC cruise...p/m if interested. You comin' Roach? |

I attended several of the PUMP meetings . Troy, Flat Broke, ssisyphus and DRClark (Doug) and a few others were extremely instrumental at these meetings and behind the scenes in fighting for mountainbikers access to these trails and deserve much respect. I realize assumptions are made but I have to speak up and give credit for the hard work , time and money these 4 put in for us bikers. Many thanks to these guys it's well deserved you have no idea all they've done for us. It's easy to misunderstand why comments are made so it's all good but there's always more to the story that you may not be aware of.
Oh yea and thanks Kevin (DDB@OCR) for keeping me entertained during those exasperating meetings !! ![]() |

No, I have a job that requires me to be there on weekday afternoons (here I am typing on a mtb forum, he he). I think I've seen you out there before. Fully rigid singlespeed? My experience with fully rigid ss'rs (in SoCal) is that they are either super hardcore, anaerobic hammerheads, have a few loose screws, or both. Or is that your bike of choice to prevent you from being reckless? That makes sense, maybe I'll build up my old Zaskar rigid again...hmmmm...I'll flag you down next time I see you out there.

Orange 1-speed and white carbon Giant. Zaskar- ![]() * Last night was hammering around on the hilll...came accross two tools on dirt bikes....one was on a blu/wt YZ85- no spark arrestor that I could see, another on a red very small 4-stroke quad. Tried to flag 'em down and told them the get the f**k outta there....kid on the YZ rode past me like I was in the way. I actually had to move. Ran into him twice buzzing around in there.... Move ahead an hour or so- the Sheriff is doing his patrol in his side-by-side Polaris ATV thingy. I kindly point out the tools below riding the trails on their dirt bikes. Have a nice day! They live in the Peppertree area down below, or are using that area as access to the preserve. Maybe kids of parents that were on the Committee? ![]() There's other stuff going on there too....not rider related. I kinda feel like a rat but, f*ck it. I don't care anymore.....times are different now and I'm defending my riding spot. There was actually a sanctioned event there once with the AMA- Jap Cove Enduro, back in the 50's... Now the place is crawling with peeps of all types, actually claiming it! Unreal. I've been there way longer than most, but not as long as some. Seen it go through a lot of changes too. And I will do what I can to protect my riding spot and it's future. I've gotten attitudes, dirty looks, etc...who cares. Some actually get testy when I call them on their BS. Pretty funny watching people go from lying to confrontational, like they're ready to 'go', when they get called on it. Screw you. Tell it to the sheriff. Screw up and get the speech from me. Get caught by the cops and get out your check book. Don't like it? Go somewhere else and take yer crap with you. Play by the rules or split. Pretty simple eh? No more excuses....there's map's signs, placards etc everywhere. The rules are clearly posted. P/s- again, the area is being patroled by the Police and they have a ZERO tollerance policy. The Fines are steep. Call the Lomita Sheriff if ya have any ?. Thanks, -k. |

Went up to del cerro last wed. All the trails look great and I cant wait to ride there again.(I was hiking). Been off the bike for awhile(7 months) so im pretty pumped to ride and get back into shape again. I was paying close attention to all the trail markings cause I have all my little loops I used to take ingrained in my head. All the new trail names are funny though.

Rode down Ishibashi/Slalom trail from the water tank area today and a reroute trail signs now blocks the trail. Now its just a long straight trail with a few turns before connecting back with the fireroad.
Anyone know if this is permanent? Hope not. I love the turns down that trail.
