I ♥ the Glory Hole

So long as snow summit is self-insured, you will never see another mountain bike park there like back in the glory days.
...Unless they change Owners. Has anyone ever heard word on possibility a lift accessed bike park for Mountain high or snow valley, kratka ridge, mt waterman or any of those other crappy SoCal ski resorts that barely get any snow? |

Bikes don't kill bunnies

Not that Big Bear is in the same league as far as Whistler as an outdoors sporting/recreation destination; but considering the local population within a 3hr drive, I'm still dumbfounded that the resort hasn't investigated potential revenue increases by opening a bike park.
I'm aware of the insurance issue from the previous lawsuit, but if Mammoth can get a coverage at a rate to justify running the park, I don't see how it would be much different for Summit. And Summit should be able to pull a MUCH larger bike park specific crowd from week to week. Just the cost of gas to go to Mammoth for 1 trip would easily fund multiple Summit trips for most folks. Has there ever been any talk of Summit's ownership consulting with the managment staff at Whistler? Obviously there are big differences in insurance between Canada and California; but I can't help that think the whole deal would be a money maker for Summit over a multi-year timeframe. The good thing about Summit would be that since the land area is already "impacted" by recreational activities, I would think that there wouldn't have to be all of the environmetal impact studdies that were done with regard to the proposed Baldy bike park. Rides a Socom
|
When I was a 15 year old kid (30 years ago *YIKES*) there were skateboard parks all over the place. In fact, there were two in Torrance! You had to buy a membership and pay to ride in hour long "sessions." I went about 3 or 4 times a week for years.
Now they are free in every city across the USA. I think (and hope) that this is how mountain biking will be in the future?!?!?! |
