Met up with turnerob, lbmtb, and xhuskr off of live oak and trabuco canyon road at 8thirty. temps were nice and we were on our way around 8fortyfive. we road the mundane 4.62 mile dirt road back to the holy jim trailhead, it serves as a nice warm up. holy jim was.....holy jim. the creek crossings were dry, and it is still steeper than it appears to be. turnerob was not feeling well and ended up calling it a day at the last switchback. xhuskr being the xc machine that he is, had no idea that we stopped to rest for a few and ended up backtracking to meet me and lbmtb just before the first rocky right hander. it turns out xhuskr took a spill and went down about 8 feet when trying to clean that turn, if you have ridden hj, you know what im talking about. if you havent ridden it, you should check it out. so xhuskr, lbmtb and i flog our way to the main divide and cool out for a few. it felt great to lay down and take in nature for a few minutes before shluggin' along the main divide. the 'wall' was its usual self, but was cleaned by all, propps to lbmtb who did it in his middle ring. we eventually made our way to the trabuco trailhead where we posted up again for about 15 minutes before heading down trabuco. as usual, the trabuco s/t was a blast and the only real difference i noticed was the fallen tree about an 1/8th of a mile before it ends. unfortunately xhuskr flatted, and shortly after that he took a pretty hard spill. he banged up his hip or ass and sucked it up and rode the rest of the way out without a murmur about it.
we shared beers and stories at the cars and now my legs are really feeling it. it was a great ride, turned out to be about 27 miles and i guess you can say it was the first of many training rides for the CC. stay tuned for lbmtb's pix...

Looks like I missed a good time. I had a smaller window of time to ride, so I ended up climbing Blackstar with my dog.
Saw CC, Lynn and Shannon on our way back down, and a few others along the ride. I wish I could have done your ride-a nice start to the CC training. |

Thanks for the RR. Here are some photos:
Rob bonking on lower holy jim! ![]() Some photos from after lower holy jim: ![]() ![]() ![]() Random pointing on main divide ![]() Group photo on pain divide ![]() Sorry, no photos from trabuco except this one . . Kevin and his flat tire ![]() Kevin "icing down" his bruise to keep swelling down ![]() Post ride drinks provided by Kevin ![]() Awesome day weather-wise. Clear and sunny but with a nice breeze. Heat was never an issue with me - I'm kind of sensitive to high heat. Props to Kevin for his best result on the wall - just one stop. Middle gearing it was my best result thus far too. Props to Bret for getting out on some more/longer rides - it's paying off. Trabuco was fun as always. I tried the middle finger braking technique for at least half of it and it actually felt pretty good. I'm gonna keep trying to use it. Look forward to next week's long ride, wherever it may be. ![]()

Im glad you guys had a good time.
But.. One thing to remember is that drinking alcohol in the CNF is illegal. Also, after a big ride your stomach is most likely empty and that beer will be more potent than normal (Brett take note as I hear your limit is two or three on a normal day). Lets keep it safe and not give sober hiker activists any more ammo against us- mmkay. |

ouch!
![]() was my thought for the last few miles, as it is today. Fun ride...love Trabuco..even with the flat and the flying over the bars it treated me to. Riding w/Bret, George, and Rob is always a good time. ..sorry you weren't feeling so well Rob (next time. Even with one stop on the wall...I felt pretty good. The Godfather was in true form pulling middle ring the whole way and since Bret got his SL he's flying. He must have gotten the optional wing package. Sorry if I slowed the group down...but it was just for fun and good training. The falls just prove while my MS Ride team name is Team Crash. 2 falls on 1 ride.![]() ......been awhile and hope it will be awhile before that happens again.Good news is that my injury didn't keep me off the bike...l got back this afternoon from a 20mile road (sorry) ride to get ready for next week's ride. As long as I'm sitting in the saddle/chair/couch....I'm fun....UNTIL I have to get up. I guess the fall is a small reminder to pay super close attn to everything, as I have NO idea what I hit that propelled me 10ft past my stopped bike.

Nicely done guys. That was the Toad course and very fun. I wish I could've joined ya. Nice pics. I'll be doing alot of rides up there soon. That downed tree will be removed on the 27th by the WS. We have trail work scheduled that day.
