Thumbs up Cooks > STT > 1/2 way to Old Camp > Luge

Met up at cooks with lbmtb, turnerob, xhusker, patrick and almost aldo (he got there and realized he left his front wheel at home ). not sure what our departure time was, but as expected, the lot was packed, filled up all the way down at far end. anyhow, after doing some calisthenics we were on our way down santiago canyon, and up the grade, and through the gate. george saw an area that needed some marinating, so he handled it. we were then on our way again. we stopped at the flagpole for a few to take a breather before heading up towards old camp. being the mack that he is, xhuskr was rappin' with about 6 trail angels whom were also resting at the flagpole. after a few minutes we headed up and i believe gouge middle ringed the entire ride, propps to him, that section after the luge is an arse kicker!!! we went up to the big dried up puddle and debated on continuing, but said 'eff it' and turned around. on the way down we saw schecky heading up solo, we talked to him for a minute and then continued downward to the luge. the luge was in really good shape, all nice and packed down, not really an ounce of dust to be seen. climbed up and out and ate at cooks. we gave chappy a call, he said he was gonna come back, but he told us that he got home, ate some cake, and then went back to bed,

good times out there today, highlight for me was completing the 'middle ring challenge', meaning i finally middle ringed the ride all the way to the luge. maybe it was the superlight combo'ed with the sb8 on the back, i dunno, but it sure felt good to finally middle ring puke hill/the oven!!! oh yeah, the closest thing we had to a crash was turnerob coming in hot at the cars and did a 'speedway style' skid and his momentum popped him up and over the other side of his bike right into me....it was awesome. i was able to somewhat catch him so he didnt fall all the way over....gouge has a shot or two of this. he snapped a few photos, so he said if i do the initial rr, he will post the pix later!

Beautiful weather today. The sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds. It was crowded like Ridge Park in Laguna. I expected a crowd, but wow.
Met Bobzrag, saw BobL, Tam & friends, and saw the bubbs. There was a shirtless guy near the Joplin/Rose canyon drop.
Like guero said, primo dirt conditions-great descending. The Luge was in very good shape. My first time down it in a couple of years. What's up with the cheater lines!?

Just got back from riding out there with 26er zen master and hanzo. Yeah, conditions were great, not near as loose as it has been. Other than a few small puddles, it almost seemed like it hadn't even rained. The ground really soaked up the water.

Sorry I missed you guys today. Got there early to do a double luge, but got back late after the first run (about 8:50).

Was a good ride today, trail was in great shape. Met Scheky (aka Chris), Richard (the russian who I always see at the bottom of Cholla and a bunch of other guys. Helped patch up a guy who endo'd just before the flag pole.

See you guys on the next ride.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the guy with the war wounds. He looked like he took a pretty good digger. I imagine he'll be feeling it tomorrow.

Thanks Rob for the lunch Never gone past the luge so didn't know what to expect when Rob offered to buy me lunch if I middle geared the the climb after the luge. I ended up middleing the whole ride - the cooler air sure felt a lot nicer than the 80+ temps. The temps plus the great trail conditions made for fun riding.

Pix!!

Rob's glorious skid

Fun ride.....although I did not take the middle ring challenge, I held my own as the "elder" in the group (a first..the elder that is). Always a fun ride with Gonz and Bret and nice finally riding with Rob and Patrick...the only down side to the day was some of the unfortunate scenery at Cooks after the ride

Great trail conditions.....see you all on the trails!

uh, don't forget about me completing the middle ring challenge. I know I wasn't as fast as gouge, but c'mon.

Great riding the luge again, and couldn't have asked for a better day. Legs are still hurting from cramping up, that was no good.

didn't realize you were competing in the challenge, but now it makes sense with the cramping
