i figured since i AM gonna do the CC why not start hitting the santa anas sooner than later. it was turneROB, bananahammock, von-diggs, namsladdjasper, and brothawendale (gouge slept in,
) we met up at 8:30 and probably started climbing about 8:50. as usual, the pavement was uneventful, although it did seemt o be a little bit shorter for some reason...maybe it was the fact i was on a lighter bike, my new (used) sc superlight. we took a breather where the pavement meets the dirt and then headed on up. i believe we only saw one other mt. biker, a few hikers, a few bubbs on motorcycles and a couple vehicles while we headed up. again, that climb was uneventful....we chillaxed for a bit in some shade near the 4-corners area and could see the smoke from the big bear fire, the smoke was billowing pretty high into the atmosphere. after a few minutes we were off to the motorway. the pain divide was in pretty good shape, the 'wall' sucked, but was cleaned by all and the deep downhill powder section seemed to have a crust on top of it, but it still was soft, deep and loose. we all filed in one by one to the gate to enter the motorway and shoot the sh*t in the shade for a few before heading down. i hadnt been on the motorway in quite some time, but it didnt appear to be too hammered in my opinion. rob and chaps mentioned it seemed to have deteriorated a bit since they last rode it in july. we all made it down without incident and shared our 'i almost crashed' stories at the bottom. the highlight of the ride was getting back to our cars and we all had tickets for not displaying an adventure pass, the worst part was that they were written at 12:20 and we got to the cars at like 12:35. ![]() i think rob and diggs might have snapped some pix...perhaps they'll upload them. oh yeah, the superlight felt great. pretty nimble and light. the talas was great, as was the rl on the back. the nevegal in the front hooked up nice, as did the rear, but there was maybe 3mm or so of clearance on each side of the tire near the seat stays. i decided that since i noticed a few times it rubbed under a tad bit of flex i'd stop by the PATH (along with dale and wendale) on the way back and pick up a 2.1 sb8...the result is more clearance and im sure it is going to roll much faster than the nevie did. tani hooked up the str discount to myself and wendale. ![]()
