one word:
UNBELIEVABLE!!

Whatever you know about the Santa Anna River Trail, hit it at night!
Tim"Grandpa", Nam, Diamond Dave and I drove up to Southfork and arrived around 7 pm. Since Jose and Justin"Klutter" had not arrived yet, those 2 started at Angelus Oaks at 4:30, we decided we might as well have a beer to get "ready"

I called Jose around 7:45pm to make sure they were ok and then minutes later you could see some lights coming up the trail.
As it turned out Justin was not in the zone and was having some cramping issues.
My wife had arrived at Southfork to pick up Diamond Dave's significant other- sorry ladies, he's not single

- and offered to bring Justin back to his car. He refueled and said he was good to go.
We clipped in at 8 pm and off we went.
With all the sweeping turns and little switchbacks on the trail from Southfork to Glass road it was fun to turn back and see the line lights snaking thru the trail. Tim had to find a log to wrestle with to make sure we had blood on the trail for the rest of the ride

Unfortunately Nam was having a hard time with his 9 finger downhill technique and had to call it quits at Glass Road....fortunately Traci was on the road so her and Lauren turned back and met us at the Glass road junction. Justin decided it might be best to catch a ride so now we were down to 4.
The section from Glass to Middle control is my one of my favorite trails anywhere and in the dark, it was epic!
The turns came up a bit too quick sometimes

and there was some new debris on the trail so that kept you in check but the stream crossings in the dark where perhaps the coolest, literally!
All the exposure sections were buried in black so those sections were truly scary!
The singletrack flow was beautiful, Jose and I were laughing at our midnight rock and log hucks!
We flew down the trail and even with regroups we made it to the base of the fireroad climb in 1 hour and 40 minutes!!
Up the road we went and there would be "little" rockslides happening on the left hand side which were a little freaky since at the last big stream crossing I swore my light reflected off something circular and shiny in the bushes...maybe a killer bunny rabbit?
Needless to say we made it up the road, it feels shorter in the dark!- and regrouped at the turnout.
The cold beer Tim had in the cooler was the icing on the cake to a fantastic ride with some great bubbs!
Nam and Justin will be back for the next one, I was thinking of Saturyday, 9/29 for the next night run??

Great RR... felt almost like I was there! Haven't had the pleasure of riding SART at night... but now definitely on my list of "To Do".

thanks much for getting this party going!! And thanks much to the playya BubBSS dat made the ride!! sure felt good knowing I wasnt the only crazy monkey to sign up for this chiiatt!!

its always easier to climb on the dark!! no heat and no way to see the pain infront of u so, u just petal till u get it DONE!!

this was one of the best rides I have done for a while!! and cant wait for the next time.

Just make a note that if anyone out there is thinking about it well, u should know ahead of time about this trail before jumping into it! THIS IS NOT AN easy RIDE @ ALL!! so if u dont have the legs 0r lungs u should wait for a while longer to give it a try!! DANNGG!! my bro got worked and he's in better shape than I am!! I know I was pushing too hard when I ate it on One of them drops!! the trail is way loose so if u take your eye for one second u will pay the price!! lucky me for not flying off the trail!!

this was a sweet ride and like all the str rides, the people present make it what it is...

I'm so freakin' jealous and sorry I missed this ride......but my effin' Dodge Truck with 100 thousand miles decided to blow a cylinder and had to spend the whole weekend w/o transportation.....

I am definitely down for a repeat......9/29 sounds fine to me!

OMR	Well done, fast grasshopper.... Neil, Great RR... felt almost like I was there!
