Default Trails near Santa Clarita??

Hey all.....

Does anyone know of any decent riding near Santa Clarita....OTHER then Towsley and Castaic??

I am heading up to my uncles next weekend and we are trying to fit in a pre lil-cousin b-day party ride....so nothing too epic, nah mean.

It would be nice to try something new....Towsley is fun but short, and Castaic....those dang climbs are brutal and boring at that.

I'm not seeing much on geoladders in that direction.

Maybe we need to get an early start down in the valley or something?

Thanks.

Have you tried Tapia Canyon in Castaic? I might be able to ride next weekend depending on what time you're available.

Default LOTS in Santa Clarita

I live in Santa Clarita -- hey, why am I on this board? Well, it's 'cuz I sometimes ride down in the OC and need to get the lowdown.

Anyways, yes Towsley's fun but short, however you can add the inner loop which will will extend your ride another 20-30min. And yes, Castaic, save for the nice lake views, is pretty boring, unless you're on a hardtail and stick mainly to fireroads/doubletrack.

We locals have a coupla recommendations:
- Tapia Canyon. 5 Fwy exit Parker in Castaic
- San Fernando Rd (aka Whitney Canyon). 14 Fwy, exit San Fernando Rd. Ride the fireroad up, then Nature Center (windy mostly singletrack) or Viper (steep, loose ridgeline) down.

Check out clipdin.com. And, if you need any GPS routes, let me know.

Happy riding.
