Looks like everyone had a good time. Wished I could have made it out but I bet I would have melted half way through. Props to those who completed the ride.

Another great, but hot, ride with a bunch of great people. Thank you, Tandem riding is a bit rough. But after 3 chain breaks, I think we finally got out all the weak links.

Elvia -

You did fantastic and you finished with one of the best guys I know (Gene). Be proud!

I didn't even realize I had gone ahead until I was done. The heat had sucked the life out of me, I was telling myself make it to the next shade, I'd get there and feel to good enough to keep going so I DID. I put my head down and just kept riding.

Besides, look and the grand entrance you got! It feels so good to roll in and get cheers from your fellow riders..

Elvia - Don't forget that everyone suffered with this ride, it was so hot that even the seasoned vets were slowing down. Once again, it's a long ride for us "not so in shape Newbies" and the matter of fact is we did it. We dug deep and finished and that's what counts.

We'll ride together again soon

Surlygal,

The heat made this a tough ride. Julia just called me and asked how I am doing - I said fine. She's like mom I could do it all over again today. OMG!

You are also right about Gene finishing the ride with him was awesome. I think that was the best thing about the ride. A slow rider finishing the ride with an expert rider - it doesn't get better than that.

I've taken this mountain biking thing hill by hill. Now that I can do hills and I've gotten over that. I need to work on improving my speed and of course keep working on the conditioning. I wish - I could say no more riding under 100 degree weather...but that may not be true.

It's goal by goal for me. I've been lucky I started ridding with some real tough mountain bikers like Bob Loeffler and Alan Strum has given me some great advice on this riding stuff. Alan sent me down Rock-It, I did exactly what he told me. I was so new to this ridding stuff when I did that. I got down rock-it in one piece.

I'll have to attempt rock-it again this weekend (this time on the bike) haha!

Gene - I'll talk to Julia about the helmet. Julia and I had this discussion before. We were told the skate boarding helmet was fine. So I let it go. Thank for letting me know it's not. I lose my sunglasses and phone but never my riding helmets. I have like four.

Great Elvia, Lots of riders use those helmets, I'm not sure if the skate helmet is the same as a bmx one though. The main thing is the fit. it should not move around so freely. She couold be decsending and have it slide over her eyes and when she reaches up to adjust it, she could go down. Oh BTW, I'm no expert rider, just someone who rides a lot.

Riding in 107 degree temps is NOT normal... just riding in those temps is really unbelieveable. Now you know better . You know who your friends are when you go through adversity and are surrounded by people encouraging and helping each other. This is what happened on Monday. EVERYBODY was suffering... but the interesting thing was that even in all that suffering there was concern and caring for each other. Why else would vet riders stay back and help the riders at the back... why else would someone drive all the way out there in the heat and bring root beer floats....you can't buy this for any amount of money. And as corny as it sounds, we are a family.

... ain't it cool!!!

OMR

Special props to Julia... this type of thing really builds & defines character... a direct reflection on her parents....

Tough ride, it was great fun though. The last 3 miles out in the sun are the worst for me. We would ride and stop at every little bit of shade and start talking about all the food we could eat at the end of this. I was wishing aloud that I had one of the super yummy rootbeer floats I had the day before and when I arrive back to Camp STR, Ashlie (wrecker's daughter) greets me with "would you like a rootbeer float?". It was music to my ears and belly! It was the best ever! Thanks guys for thinking of us!!
I love how everyone can spin riding in 107 degrees into a postitive event and seem really happy about it.
And you'll all be happy to hear I got Gabe to throw the jersey into the wash!!
