Exclamation Warning... Arroy Trabuco!!! and Introduction

I have been reading posts on this forum for a while and havent introduced myself yet so no is the time. I live in rancho santa margarita and regularly ride the local trails about 5 days a week. Just started mountain biking about two months ago and already broke my clavicle but it healed up in about three weeks so i am back on the trail.

Now for the warning!!! I was riding Arroyo Trabuco this morning and came accross a HUGE oak that had uprooted and planted itself right over the main trail. The tree is about one third of the way through the part that gets real woody and tight so be careful. The only way to get around it is to get off and military crawl with your bike under it.

Ride Safe!!

Welcome and thanks for the warning. I just led "a few" riders there this past Sat and good thing it didn't happen while we were coming through, it would've added half of STR to the DL.

Sorry you missed it. keep an eye out for other newbie rides. BTW, not everyone who signs up for those rides are newbs, lots of veteran riders as well.

That tree needs to be moved. I may go in on Wed and see what it'll take to move it off the trail because there is a ride posted for Labor Day.

Default tree down update

OK here's what I just heard from the Singletrack Angel of the Trail Angels who rode Arroyo Trabuco this am. The tree is down on the norther part of the jungle. The tree is HUGE. Kristine guesses at least 36" in diameter but probably more. She doesn't think even 10 people could move it.

She did say you can get underneath it and she didn't see a real obvious way to make a path around it.

So unless someone has a really big chainsaw the best plan might be to GPS the location and call the O'Neill ranger and let them dispatch a work crew. 949-923-2260

But that might take a while. Gene I also have the head ranger's (Ron Slimm) personal cell number but won't post it. If you need it call me.

Use caution on the downhill approach is another thing she mentioned.

Thanks John. The Rangers have been notified and depending on staffing a crew will be dispatched in the next couple days maybe even today. The tree will be removed or cut up so the trail is clear. I spoke with Scott one of the rangers who was there this Sat is aware of the rides there this coming Labor Day weekend and will try and get a crew out as soon as possible. He will call me and when I know more, I'll update this post. Thanks guys.

Update: The ranger went out and checked out the tree. It was 1/10th of a mile from the start of the Arroyo single track. Ranger Scott said it was a monster of a tree and full of poison oak. They will be removing it tomorrow and will call me when they do. Thanks for the info Kristine and John and thanks again commplex for posting this..
