Duan'er - 29'er remixed

A friend of mine had purchased a K2 mtn bike a couple years back, rode it a few times and then it sat in the garage since then. As some of you know; I myself got back on the saddle not too long ago so I encouraged him to dust that bike off and go ride with me. He complied after I reassured him that I would not punish him too much.
So we met up this morning for the ride, he brought his 19 year old cousin with him. His cousin brought along a $99 bike from Ralph's complete with kick stand. My friend and I told him that if you can get really proficient with that bike there's no telling what you can do if you ever upgraded to a lighter bike. My friend was a bit more apprehensive but his cousin was ready to roll. We took it easy on them and road the fire road through the canyon stopping periodically to let my buddy catch his breath; his cousin was doing great (says something about youth). Other than that they both were having a good time, although I did hear a few expletives coming out of my friend's mouth a few times in between breaths of air. LOL. I told him "dude don't you worry that's exactly how I was when i first started up again, completely winded and was hurting" I told him take your time and go your own pace we'll be right there and will not leave you. We got to the little climb near where Lynx ends and that was his first challenge, he dismounted and walked it, his cousin got up out of his saddle and huffed it up! We waited for him at the base of Cholla and encouraged him and that we were halfway done we just needed to go up there (putting up Cholla) He was very reluctant but with encouragement and threats that he would never go home (since his cousin drove) he started the climb. A little bit later both he and his cousin showed up winded but glad the ordeal was over! We chilled for a bit to let him relax a bit and decided that since time was not on our side today we would just ride to the water tank and down Rock It. We all made it down with no drama either on the bike or off it but they made it down. We ended the ride at the coyote and parted ways as we started our ride at MILF park and they were at the parking lot. Fast forward a couple hours later. I got a call from my buddy asking me where the nearest shop was because his cousin is HOOKED! ![]() They wanted to go get better shorts; gloves, etc because they wanted to do it again. I'm really glad that we were able to get at least two more people into this great sport it's nice to have new blood come along on the rides! They'll be registering soon on the site! ![]() |

The greatest gift you can give is to give back.. that that is exactly waht you are doing to turn someone one to mountain biking... you have become the master to a new grasshopper... the circle is complete.

JSims: his cousin actually rode down rock it on his K2 LOL and he walked down the Ralph's bike!
I too foresee a change in bikes REALLY soon for at least one of them...it is quite cool/good feeling to know that you helped in getting someone really into riding |

Whats going on guys...I'm 1/2 of the noobs that went riding today. I cant begin to describe how much pain my ass is in, literally, I need some riding shorts because my ass is hurting, I can barely sit anywhere. But i had an amazing time, I'm defiantly hooked, so is my cousin, he's actaully going riding again tomorrow, on a roadie this time.
I think riding is going to be a great way to get me in shape. I'm going to try to hit some of the trails near me as often as i can. |
