Default Come ride in Idyllwild

Just an open invite to all: come out and ride here! We have far too many great trails (more than you might think-- Hurkey is the tip of the iceburg) and far too few people up here riding them.

I'd be happy to help point you in the right direction, an on occasion, lead a ride.

Do it!

Default Great, grasshopper!

How are the trail conditions right now?... I understand you've even gotten a bit of rain? I'm sure that we are going to put together a ride out there fairly soon and will take you up on your offer Brendan. Really appreciate you taking the initiative ... we'll come up and put you to the test.

Best to Bud!

If anyone can shed any light on the 'golf tee' situation heading up Thomas Mountain I'd be interested to hear about it. There must be thousands of them all in a line!

My sister lives in Pine Cove, and my Mother-in-law & Dad just bought a place a little further north on the Banning side. Post some weekend rides. We might just show up.

I did the Idyllwild Spring Classic and I loved the course.
I would love to go back and ride those trails again.
Is it possible to get some maps of the area?

I rode the route on my Dos Niner and had more than enough fun on that The Enduro would love it out there also.

Looks like fun, found the rest of the pics on Justin's site. He needs to set up links on his home page for all the photo albums!!!

Can't wait to hook and ride this with you guys.

Default here's some answers:

Ernie Maxwell is a really fun, but short, in-town trail. Good for an after work ride, but probably should be avoided on weekends because there's so much pedestrian traffic on it-- some people in town have questioned if mtbers should be allowed on it..

Tomas mountain golf tees? Just rode up there last weekend but didn't see any! Fore!

Allison-- that pic you have of a rider going over the big log pile going down Snakeskin: next time you ride it, note the big (massive) boulder just 20ft before the log pile... Go over it, check out the trail that awaits!

http://picasaweb.google.com/SirenMary check out our web album, click "Idyllwild Riding" and you'll see the boulder I'm talking about. We rode it Saturday.

Big bike riders: there's some big-bike riding to be had, originating in Pine Cove going down Project X, linking through the hub trails (Upper & Lower Bathtubs) and down Satan's Gut. This will go all the way down very close to Hemet. I've ridden this route only once.. but then again I'm not a "big-bike" rider!

Maps & such: Working on it. I've got a good pile of gps tracks put together, but I haven't gone through and defined any of it yet. I'm hoping to put together a small guidebook of about 60 miles of trail in the immediate area.

I think a few people rode the boulder, or checked it out. I opted for the log pile instead

EM was a cool trail, but you are right, short. We linked it up with the trail off Cherry on Top (forget the name) after climbing up that horrid fire road of death. From there we rode Snakeskin and linked it up with the end of the Hurkey Creek course. It was a blast of a half day Easter ride, and only ran into a few hikers. I agree, though, EM is probably best ridden on holidays, or mid-week, not a regular Saturday.

Set up a weekend ride, I would love to be in the know on the local stuff. I have rode South Ridge, Ernie Maxwell, Ramona Trail. and all the 24-hour coarse. Last time I was in Alvin Meadows it was hard to find the trails due to logging. The rangers at Hurkey Creek mentioned that there are some new trails up in town.

If you don't have time to lead a ride, any Garmin (gpx) or National Geographic TOPO routes you have would be great. dstepper@excite.com

i wouldn't mind learning about the "bike bike" trails
Justin we used South Ridge Trail to connect Ernie Maxwell to Hurkey...with that lovey pavement climb and your lack of a rear derailuer.

Default Let's do it-- Sun Sept 2nd

How's about Sunday, the 2nd? Probably meet in town and ride out into May Valley for the highlight tour. I'd guess 20 miles in three hours or so, at a good pace... but we can adjust according to the group's preferences.

the trails are in good shape right now.

wow, the smileys are soo much better here than mtbr!
