Thumbs up RR: San Clemente HOT Ride!

We went down this morning and joined 29Wheels for a little tour of the San Clemente single tracks.

Just off of the 5 Frwy I thought I'd seen Gene's truck in the parking lot of Micky D's. There aren't too many tan Tomac's in the area, so I figured he was in "fueling" up.

When we made the meeting point Marshal (opp's Marcel) was already there waiting, and not to long after Doug roll's up. We waited for Gene for a few minutes, but figured with a FAST as he is, he'd catch us no problem.

We started with some fireroad climbing, and reached a spot where the single track was supposed to start.

Doug, "uh, it was here on Wenesday"?

After a small detour the fun began!

Doug can really get moving on his 29'er SS, and CPATCRASH was rolling his geared 29'er along just as well. Lacey was climbing like she ride's a lot more than she actually does, and Marcel was doing it right on his Ibis Mojo(?).
According to Marcel, he ride's mostly at Aliso, so he was venturing out for some new challenges today!

Rolling up, then down, with narrow, sometimes off camber single track. It was SWEET!

And it was getting HOT!

We reached a point after some more climbing, where Doug gave us a few opptions. We chose the one that sounded like fun, without being too brutal.

Did I mention it was getting HOT?

Everyone was doing great, then the heat, and lack of sleep, with the new baby boy, (CONGRATS!!) started getting to Marcel. We were getting pretty close to being done, and he did a GREAT job of listening to his body, and taking it easy the rest of the way back.

I have to say, it was a REALLY fun day, and a nice change of pace to the usual riding spots!

Pat's GPS gave us 10.65 miles with 1686 feet of climbing. Not bad for what felt like a pretty short ride.

Here's a few pics;

After the ride, Pat, Lacey and I headed to Pizza Post for some great after ride rewards!

Thanks again to 29Wheels for setting this up!

It was a GREAT time for sure!

Ya that was my truck at Micky D's. Needed a restroom stop before the ride. Anyway, I ended up parking near the skate park up the street from the dog park. I didn't click on the link that showed me where to meet. My bad .

I waited till about 8:30 then decided to try and meet up with another ride at Aliso. I'm sure it was a lot of fun. I've never started on that end and would've loved to see what single tracks were there. I'm glad you guys had fun. I'll be sure and check the meeting place next time instead of A$$uming .

Thumbs up Nice pics & RR Maxwell.

Good to see and ride with you on Sat. Sunday, I spent in the morning in an air conditioned church on a stage with a hot Taylor 12 string in my hands ... the band was hot the air was not! .... and, although I dearly love that San Clemente single track, I think I'll wait until the weather turns a bit cooler as there is not much shade down there. Good to hear that the Ol' Man (CPat) was out and rolling.

Default Great Ride

I want to thanks doug for giving us the tour yesterday and to maxwell for giving me some moral support. I had a lot of fun yesterday(except for the heat!) and I definetely want to go back again. Maybe when it's not soo hot.

I wished I could've join you guys that the pizza parlor but my wife was glad that I was there to relieve her of the baby duty when I got home.

Default Thanks....

Lacey, Maxwell, Pat and Marcel for making the voyage down to the far edge of South County! Nice to put some user names and faces together.

Got’a say Lacey is a “chip of the ol block” (that is ok to say about a young lady right?) She just rides and rides and rides. Nice job Lacey.

Maxwell thanks for picking up Pat so he would show up on time…….

Pat it was nice talking / geeking (sp) out on bikes and motorcycles with you.

Marshall (just kidding). Great job pacing yourself to finish the ride and trying new trails. You should hook-up with Duan (Foo Fighter) he rides Aliso all the time and also has a new pimp FS bike.

I would say that was probably the warmest ride I have done on that trail. Pat and I were talking about how much we hydrated before the ride and it really helped. Also ice in your water during the ride helps. I think I only went through 50-70oz of water during the ride but drank like camel when I got home ( it seems I was thirsty for the rest of the day).

Next time we will do some different trails. There is a bunch of stuff back there and we only rode about 25%.

Thanks Again!

Would love to ride the trails you guys rode just to see what's there. Starting from the dog park, I usually ride what is probably the "Middle Loop" Next time, I'll be sure to be at the right meeting place.

That is a popular starting point. Many riders go up through the industrial park and ride down some steeper stuff. I have done it a few times back when I had a FS bike.

Like I said lots and lots of stuff back there

I was at the main parking lot at 9am. Went up Meadows, down Rock It, Coyote, up Mathis and down Links, Coyote, Dripping Cave, then out. Thought about going up Cholla, then back over to Meadows after Links, but it was getting hot and plus I ran into Elvia(ezzyrides) and Natalie(Permagrin) and joined them for lunch instead.

We usually ride aliso on wed night between 4:30-5:30 start. The starting time don't usually get set until late in the day. But 5 is the average starting time.
