Default RR: Back on 29, or, SART

Got up way too early today to ride SART. Met up with Doug and headed off toward the trail about 10 til 8. The temp was PERFECT at the pull out lot. Wasn't that cool all day, but temps weren't too bad.

First off, we had picked up a new WIDE flat carbon bar for the Dos to try to help me with confidence while descending on it... Also put on the new Ergon grips I had had for awhile and had never been installed.

First flat, right up the fire road from the post office

Second flat, on the fire road climb after the first descending

Third flat... coming back from the campground

Fourth flat... justin fought his rear 28" tube (yup, conti) for a good long while at Glass Rd all the way almost to the fire road out, but finally put in the only tube we had left (26")

Early riding

Enjoying the descent

Creek crossing

Trusty steed

Artsy

Near the end of the ride Justin was playing with his snake...

BOY did that thing smell.

Unfortunately the color didn't come out, but it was gorgeous on the under side.

Guero - I left out the token handlebar shot just for you

Had a great time!! Dougie was on FIRE today!

Nice RR and cool snake!
Looks like a [SIZE=2]San Bernardino Ring-necked Snake.

Awesome ride today!! Thanks again for letting me tag along. I had a blast!!

Thanks again to Justin for playing Trail Paparazzi today and for fixing my derailleur--just in time for the long climb out no less. Thanks to Allison for being my "water bottle Sherpa"

The 4 flats were a bit of a pain in the arse, but considering that's basically the "worst" occurrence of the ride, we did pretty darn good. Topped off a great ride with an awesome dinner at Cuca's!!!!

I too was wondering what the heck that funky smell was coming off Justin's snake

Looking forward to the VQ/CC training rides. Or am I

Whoa Doug, don't let Justin suck you into the pain. Looks like you guys had a blast out there today. I'm sure the flats were welcomed rests.

I know what you mean, but sacrifices must be made if I'm to finish CC.

Yes, yes they were. After awhile though, my legs would cool down and stiffen up a slight bit during the break and then the first couple hundred yards after the restart were pretty interesting while they warmed back up.

Sweet! Glad you guys had fun. I was just too tired (yeah I know--WUSS!!).

Doug: Funny thing, I went out to the garage this morning to wash my filthy Trance and I had TWO flats. I pulled out 5 thorns that I must have picked up yesterday...

That looks awesome guys, glad you had a good time. I ended almost getting heat stroke on a 15 mile loop in Sweetwater, so it's probably best that I didn't join.

Great RR and pics, thanks!

I ended up out there, but starting from Glass Road. Ashlie's camp was a few miles down Glass Road, so I thought it would work out well (I could ride up until it was time to pick her up).

Turns out, worked out perfect, as we slept in a bit and didn't start until 8:15am. Had enough time to just ride to Barton Flats, then back down to the stream (only about 9-10miles total).

Now I REALLY want to get back out there for the rest of the trail-what fun!

It was a good day. We heard that it was really dusty and washed out in places, but it actually wasn't any worse than I remember.

How was the nat situation? Usually the nats are terrible this time of year.

They weren't bad as long as you kept moving. So, ya, they were at their usual annoyance level.

Thankfully they left us alone when we stopped at the campground for snacks and a short rest.

I had a great ride up on SART this weekend. God a little confused, one of our riders boinked and we took the old abandoned 38 back down. That was a great ride.
I came across 3 other STR folks near the 2 huge washouts. Was that You guys?

I was on a silver Yeti, but the other guy on a silver Yeti in the lycra was with the 3F group who shuttled it.

You don't know how lucky you are that I was not in lycra
