the trails lead off the end of La Plata, by the dog park. Basically head east on Pico from the 5 and rt on La plata to the end... Tons of fun out there....

Enjoy

Sounds like a possible Sunday ride. Is it worth doing a few loops?

Pat, just follow the flow and stay left on the junctions, then as it crosses the same junction again go right. You'll be fine, like Jeff(J Sims) says, explore and have fun. It can be 10 miles or 18. Lots of up and downs, some makeable and and some you have to hike, couple bridge crossings and trees to duck under. Here are a few pics.

Dude, I even have a trail named after me there, "Grant's Fantasy".

It has to do with all sorts of crap grabbing at you.

I'll give you tour all the way to San Juan if you want. Watch out for Marines, though.

I'll be in on the squish that makes tons of noise. Meet at the campground on San Mateo.

NOTE: You will be in Marine terriory at some point, faint of heart and those that read signs need not apply.

Just a little FYI> Might be a little difficult for some newbs. The trail has lots of down and ups. Some of the ups are very steep, but they can always walk it up. There are sections of off chamber that are tuff, but still doable. The switchback climbs and descents would also be tuff, not a beginner trail by any means, just take it slow. You gotta learn somehow.

Would be tuff on an SS. Calvin Mulder aka Superman did it in his, but that's Calvin for ya. There are some climbs that are tuff. Middle ring/28 maybe. A couple hills are short and steep, just pure granny. I would bring a geared bike or you'll be walking a lot of the climbs. I know I would be if I rode a SS.

Pat,

I've done it on the 29erSS and only had to walk a couple of hills... really a lot of fun exploring all the single track there.
