RR: Ride like a Kid, eh

[FONT=Arial]"Quick" ride report. Plan is to meet/roll at 3pm for mod pace up/back up maples. On drive over realize adventure pass expired last month. Call Johnny (Johnny Dirt) to see if we can meet at B-star and car pool up, as he must have good pass. Informs me same issue and just expired as well (J – I’ll pick up 2 tomorrow at REI). Get another call from J on ride over and says huge accident, stuck in traffic gonna be a bit late. Decide to park and hope no tickie[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]Arrive at trailhead to see Kevin (XHuskr) ready to rock. We talk beers and bikes until other clowns show. J pulls in with Danny (Jamised out) riding shotgun. As we’re kitting up, Danny realizes forgot helmet so were off on 4 bikes and 3 melon protectors. Think we get rolling ~ 3:45.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]Haven’t ridden maples in ~1 year, see paved section through first stream crossing (nice - wish they had that before on our winter rides - nothing like plowing through the few feet of cold as sh!t water in the first miute of your 7 mile climb and cold decent. Anyway should help a bit keeping drier when wet season picks up.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]Kevin makes it to the dirt first, followed by me, Danny and J. Most rest of the ride Kevin and Danny led the charge with me and Johnny trailing abit behind. As expected[/FONT][FONT=Arial] uneventful climb to top with another rally spot to keep everyone together. See a truck heading up with couch in back bed...hoping they leave it at 4 corners for a mid ride nap..no such luck. Overall, ride up was warm but not bad (a few breezes) and only a few bugs.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]Get to top take a group pic. What's that we see - an OCrider spotting!. Damn, I see that guy all the f’n time riding the SA’s, but this time I know he will not blow by me on his bike!!!. Reason being he was 4x4. apparenlty deciding to give his super human legs a rest for once. We all rap a bit and he’s off.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]So after choking down some energy bars and stuff, were off to bomb the decent. While Danny jumps out at mock speed w/o his helmet we "take turns" up front as was crazy dry and a lot of dust flying around. As you know nothing tech on Maples but some sketch spots with soft sand at high speed. Throw in some trucks and motorbikes to navigate around and you got a party. Johnny even decided to throw down some mad huckage when he unexpectedly hit a kicker he didn’t see. He sticks the landing does a few hail mary's and he's ready to go. Now we're back on pavement for the final 3 miles with all arriving at parking lot w/o incident.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]Pop open a few beers provide by Johnny to commemorate the ride (he takes a few mo' pics) and we're back on road heading home. J - post dem pics, brotha. [/FONT]

[FONT=Arial]So, good fun, nothing crazy (it's only Maples you know), no land speed records (think total run time up/back ~ 2hrs. Just a few guys who hooked up for an afternoon spin. [/FONT]

Fun ride.....i do hate the 1st 3 miles of the pavement!

The climb was nice.....a bit sketchy going down since I had a great fall over ice on that trail in January......some things you don't forget. Thnx Kid A for getting us out there midweek. Nice meeting Johnny (good taste in beer) and "Helmetlesshead" Danny
