Default RR: Noble Canyon

Justin and I head down to Noble Canyon really early Saturday morning for a short run on one of the best So Cal trails. I wasn't really worried about heat too much, but was concerned about thunderstorms. Mark said there had been hail, and Woody had gotten rained on earlier in the week.

Luckily the weather turned out to be great. Justin and I broke off from Aqua and Mark and turned to go downhill while they climbed up to Big Laguna.

Baby horned toad that Justin caught (and subsequently re-released to the plants)

Yep, I tumbled off the trail...

It's okay, I'm all right!

Justin let me sport the Socom on the downhills...

Tree jump

Widowmaker (I biffed it for some reason)

Justin convinced me to ride down the hairy switchback before Stairway to Hell... I was a bit nervous, but tried it anyway

Granted, I didn't make the turn, but I DID make it down. Next time I'll try to make the turn. Baby steps.

Coming down Stairway to Hell

Following the directions for post-ride drinks...

Question

You know, I love this trail and also the big meadow trail on top... and I always seem to see Steve's ghost somewhere along the way... wait, that's no ghost, that's Steve! But, I really don't like climbing up this sucker...

Was that crash in the bushes (glad you're OK) going up or coming down?

Nice camera work BTW.

What gear are you pushing up, Justin?

What happened on "Widowmaker"?

I hear that is grounds for expulsion from San Diego County.

Credit where it's due... Justin took most of the pics BUT! I did the work in resizing, uploading, and posting.

The crash in the bushes on Indian Creek was climbing. Just stalled out and when I went to put a foot down I tumbled. I was really pretty scared that I wasn't gonna stop

Justin's only got a front ring on his Socom. He was probably climbing in 32/34 or something similar.

I dunno.. I wasn't totally comfortable on the Socom yet... I think I just kind of psyched myself out. I hit a few bumps and then stopped looking far enough ahead to make it out okay. I bounced, and I think I grabbed brake (stupid!). I almost did a run out, but Justin kinda caught me and I slammed my inner thigh against the TT of the frame. That was about it

Kudos on clearing that swtichback! That's the only point on Noble that I wuss out on every time. It looks so much easier in the vid than it actaully is.

Nothing like a nice TT bruise on your thigh. Good times.

Thanks. I honestly feel that's the best all around trail in SoCal. I've gotta get back there.

Soon, grasshopper...

Actually, with two weekends gone in August, a road ride planned for one Saturday, and the possibility of a trip back up to Snow Summit... I'd say maybe September? I dunno if temps will cool down.

I would've been rough (on me at least) to do the whole route in the heat. Steve and Mark hang out up at the top and wait until about 3-4 to descend. That's a little more difficult with a bigger group.

I'll hook up a ride, though.

Sweet. I'd like to try to ride it at least twice before the snow starts up.

Allison--after taking a second look at the pics, I didn't know you were one of a set of triplets. So what does Justin think about there being 3 of you??
