Default RR: Fully Loop 7/26

What is it with the loop these days.... Another ride with 2 injuries including what appears to be a broken arm. I am sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong with the facts but as I understand it one of Georges friends from work crashed early on and was escorted back to his car with a very sore arm. and at the end...same place, same time the loop reportedly claimed the arm of "Keith" I am not sure what his handle is on here but I believe that he was with Sara aka Sauce... I am sure that once everyone returns from Roscoe's we will all be enlightened...

Here is to quick recoveries for all the injured

Default RR Fully Loop 7/26

We had another good showing tonight for the Loop ride. Things started out well until George's friend took a spill coming off the drop in on Juanita Cook. 1 rider down and Gene took the guy back to the car. The rest of the ride seemed uneventful. Christian was kickin' some major a$$ tonight. He spent the day swimming and showed up a bit tired for the ride. However, Christian did great riding with the group. Ann and CC hung back to keep him company.

At the top of Mormon hill, Dean got a flat after everyone left. By the time we got going again, it was getting pretty dark. We cut the ride short and didn't take the golf course/dam back to the cars. Instead we continued on Juanita Cook and met up with everyone in the parking lot. After some b'sing around, Dino shows up in his truck with Keith B's bike. He told me Keith took a pretty big crash at the bottom of the dam area and broke his arm. Soon enough, George, Brett, and a few more riders came in and reported that the Fire Dept was out there helping Keith. As the group left for Roscoe's, Ann, George, and I went to St. Joe's. Sure enough, Keith was already inside and we took turns visiting him. Keith was in a lot of pain when I saw him. His forearm was so swelled up I called him Popeye . I'm sure it was the bone protruding up which caused the arm to look so fat.

Well, that's 4 riders in 2 wks that got injured on the loop. I think we need to either start earlier or bring lights. Keith and George's friend, heal fast my friends.

Default Firetruck

Well that must have been the same fire truck coming up Harbor as I crossed at Brea Blvd. Back at the parking lot I was told that there quite a few still behind when I thought I was one of the last. At that moment I thought of the fire truck but quietly hoped it was for something else. That last bit of the loop at the damn is sketchy for me without lights so I ride with extra caution. Speedy recovery to those that are hurt and god bless.

Very hot tonight! Kinda faster paced as we raced the sun.
I agree, an earlier start time might help.
Hope you guys all heal soon.

Thanks for the brownies CC!

fun times tonight. my new dawg felt so nice! 7 pounds really makes a huge difference, i felt like i could actually climb vs. slogging up the hills on the coiler. sounds lame, but it felt great to be able to middle ring everything on the loop again. i even hit that same drop that nam got video of me on last week, felt just as good on the dawg!

so, the last little chute through the trees owned another str bubb. i was following close behind jeff/hoosierdaddy since he had a light, and as we approached the bottom of the chute we saw two bikes sprawled out blocking the trail...i was kinda trippin since my brakes werent 100% broken in yet and i thought i was going to run over one of the bikes for sure. it wasnt until the last 2nd that sarah moved one of the bikes out of the way and jeff and i made it down just fine....however as we passed she shouted, rider down, keiths arm is broken!!!! we stopped and tried to assist, he was getting more and more pale by the minute and was saying he felt woozy and was on the verge of passing out. i took off my camelbak and held the mouthpiece up to his mouth for him, and he took a few sips off and on. sarah called 911 i believe and did a great job, we were all kinda trippin on exactly where our location was, all we could come up with was we are north of the golf course parking lot....i think it took about 5 minutes or so for the medics to arrive and treat keith. he hung in there like a champ as they loaded him on the girney (sp?) and put him in the ambulance....gouge has a few shots of the medics on scene and a few from the hospital.

roscoes was fun as usual and str had a solid showing...as usual! thank you to the str resident baker, CC for providing brownies for everyone, they were tasty as we pulled into the lot after the ride. she also made/bought a cake for steppie since it was his birthday. the band even gave a shout out to steppie, it was rad!!! there was one other highlight of the night that i will not disclose yet....chumbajason has some good pictures of what i'm talking about and i'll let him post them and then you can see what i was talking about.

good times tonight and heres to hoping keith isn't off the bike too long, cheers eh!

Default RR: Fully Claims Two More 7/26

Fully loop continues where it left off last week by claiming two more victims. The first was my co-worker xavier who went out for his first ride on dirt and washed out pretty bad towards the beginning -- hurting his elbow & knee. The second was a bike veteran who went down on the last steep downhill after the sun had gone down (no lights). Keith ended up breaking his arm in two places and might need surgery. Understandably, He was in a lot of pain.

Will have pics tomorrow. Too tired right now.

Along with the joys of mountain biking comes it's risks. We take these risks knowingly. Although nobody deserves to get hurt, especially good people like Keith or xavier, it does and will happen. When that happens all we can do is face it with courage and be supportive of our fallen friend.
Here's to a quick recovery
