Default RR: Tahoe Day 3

Sunday's was another epic that had actually more mileage. I believe we rode 33 miles. These miles were much easier with less climbing and hike a biking than Saturday's ride. The ride started at Tahoe Meadows above Incline Villiage on the North East side of Lake Tahoe. Once again we rode many more miles on the Tahoe Rim Trail. This ride included the famous Flume Trail and a secret singletrack descent. The route we did was kind of all over the place...

Entering Tahoe Meadows

Very fun sections on the TRT. Dan doing his thing here!

I cut Jeff's head off here. But he looks to be on fire

Ooooohhh

Crossing a really cool damn. Cant remember trail name here.

Climbing back up the TRT trail. Sandy steep not fun fireroad

The weekend we were here the 100 mile Tahoe Run was going on. The race set up aid stations along the TRT. This particular aid station was waiting on just 1 more runner to come through. The volunteers working the station offered us gatorade, bananas, and all sort of food and energy stuff. This was a little slice of heaven in the middle of no where.

Pretty stoked, and reppin' the STR jersey

Marlette Peak.

Bionicon coming up a rock face switchback

Jeff doing the same

Finally made it to the Flume Trail

Looking down at Sand Harbor

Picture says it all

Marlette Lake. This was a rest stop and quick dip in the lake to cool off

We finally climbed away from the lake and over one more pass and descended some secret singetrack. Our vehicles were parked right on the highway above the lake.

The only thing left to do was bring out the ice chest of beers and walk down to the lake for a swim. The water in Tahoe in unbelievable clear and refreshing. Having a swim in the lake was perfect after a 33 mile ride. I believe Dano took some photos here.

Default Great ride

We did a lot of miles on this day but Steve put together a real nice route. It seemed like we hit all the good stuff in that area. The whole aid station thing was great. Our timing was perfect. They were almost begging us to take stuff because they were going to have to haul it all out of there.
I have to thank Aaron for offering to drive the shuttle on this day. When we got to the end of the ride I just assumed I would be going back up to get my truck while the rest of the crew took a swim and had a beer. Aaron asked for the keys and said it would not be fair if I had to do the shuttle every day. The water was clear and cold.
Aaron also made an interesting observation at one of the rest stops. There is a place where four trails intersect. We stopped here 2 different times while doing several loops. During the first break everyone was spread out, looking at maps, signs, bikes, etc. The second time everyone was crowded around one small area in the middle. The difference? There were 2 spandex clad female riders taking a break when we stopped the second time.

Default Day 3

We started off the ride waiting for our fearless leader to clean his wounds after he crashed a few hundred yards from the trucks.

I had to try this rock/jump/roll thing. It turned out to be easier than it looked.

This is a sweet shot of Matt cleaning a staircase section.

Aaron on the same stairs

There were a lot of places that looked like this

Hospitality tent, here we come

Everyone was stuffing their face

Full and ready for more miles

On top of another boring peak

Dano rockin the Kern River Brewing Company shirt. This happened because we started giving him crap about wearing the same jersey for three days.

This was a cool rock switchback. Steve and I tried to clear it 3 or 4 times each. We were never quite able to make it. I just seemed to run out of room.

Looking down at Sand Harbor from the Flume trail

Riding near a lake

Taking a swim in Tahoe at the end

That night after dinner I had to do some work so my rear brakes would start working again. The BBQ and a few tie downs made a great bike stand.
