Default Dirty Trails?

OK...just a brief rant about Trail Trash (not to confused with Trailer Trash).

Yesterday while riding Turnbull/7th Ave s/t I once again found the same flavor of empty Gu packs left on the same place on the trail. Move forward 15 feet, find another. Move 10 more feet and see 8-10 more just off to the side of the trail!! I stopped and picked up each packet as I HATE seeing people leave trash on the trail. IMO these may have been left by runners as there were old signs left out with mileage and directions as well as so many in the same place. Could be mtn bikers as well. It would have to be a big group who all had the same flavor at the same time/place (Chocolate...for those curious). Either way........the people I've met on STR are responsible, so here's an idea. BTW...my friends give my a hard time for stopping almost anytime I see trash on the trail. Here's the plan/idea;

1. Pack out what you pack in (sound familiar)
2. For those who are incapable or choose to litter , try and pick up one or two pieces of trash on your ride and throw it in your pack.
3. Recycle the Gu type packets. Gu has a recycling program called GUsports Stash Your Trash Program
4. If you see someone or someone in you group has a problem, just mention that their mother does not come out to clean their mess on the trails, nor does Mother Nature!! (be nice....or sarcastic...your choice)

Enjoy the trails...don't ruin them

OK........rant over.......thnx for letting me release my frustration. Have a good ride, eh?

When we were up on Coldwater last weekend we came across 3 balloons you get from the grocery store for birthdays/parties... The bigger ones that are like foil?

Tell everyone to stop letting those go as well!

Default Paper or Plastic?

Somewhat on topic. While checking out at the grocery store go with paper. It's recycled and biodegradeable. Those plastic bags wind up everywhere. Look along the side of the freeway today. Plastic is non biodegradeable. It just turns into smaller and smaller pieces and finds it's way into our oceans. Try picking one of these bags up out on the trail after it's been in the sun for a while it'll just fall into pieces. So, go with paper

I hear you, PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN, it upsets me when I see inner tubes on the side of a trail. Lazy people.

I can't tell you how many empty sandwich bags I have in my pack from trails long since ridden. I cleaned the pack out prior to Dean's B-day ride, I lost count after 7.

Give a hoot, don't polute

If I see tubes I will pick them up and patch them up. Thier is a real dirtbag at my work that dosen't wash his hands after the bathroom and twice I saw him littering in the parking lot. Now whenever I walk by his truck in the morning I am throwing my apple cores or banana peels in his bed of his truck.

we've all found odd things left behind. tools, tubes, a hot cup of coffee carefully placed under a plant, patch kits, energy gels, cliff bars.......what was the most odd thing you found?

Mine was the perfectly placed cup of hot coffee in a styrofoam type of cup on the top ride of Aliso during a trail cleanup day

yours?

On the brightside - if you pick up enough "spent" GU Gel packs, you can get the replacements free.

And who doesn't like free stuff. But, littering still sucks - and you suck if you do litter.

Most Saturday mornings you can find a perfectly good banana at the bottom of "whore" on Noble Canyon.

I'd suggest you leave it there if you see it, though.

Not on the trail but I get steamed at smokers that toss their butts out the window. One day at a red light the guy in front of me was almost burned down and I knew he was going to toss it. When he did I put the car in park, got out, picked it up and tossed it back in his window, still burning. He about pissed himself. Felt good to catch one in the act.

Litter ain't all that bad.

In fact, you get used to it after a while and you quietly just vacuum it up.

Stupid cats.

I really don't think that'll fit in a jersey pocket.

Pet peeve #7 (or whatevr, my list is so long I lose track) - litter. If you can carry it in, you can carry it out. It's not brain surgery, y'know?
