Left CO for a brief stop in Island Park, Idaho; followed by a short stay in West Yellowstone, Montana. Scenery= spectacular, riding= not so spectacular.
I think because you are surrounded by trees and mountains, you'd expect the riding to be really good, but that was not the case. In Island Park, there is a state park called Harriman, it did have some really well marked, easy single track trails to ride. My daughter loved them, my wife could not get past the Danger: Bears signs posted on every other tree. Beautiful place, with some great views, very beginner friendly. Went on a horseback ride there as well, and pretty much saw the entire park, I'm thinking that a 3-4 hour easy paced ride would get you onto almost every trail in the park. A must do, if you are ever in Island Park, is to go see Mesa Falls. Next stop was West Yellowstone, Montana. Met up with Lor and his family there for a few days, and granted, we didn't go for the riding, but still, it disappointed. After touring the park, which looked like it would be lots of fun to ride , Lor and I rode a xc ski area in West Yellowstone. Pretty easy riding, and at least it got the legs moving.Pic #1 Lake in Harriman State Park #2 Mama no likey bears #3 Mesa Falls #4 We're not in CA anymore! #5 View from the highest point in Harriman State Park #6 Definitely not Lor's best side, in West Yellowstone.
