Default RR: Mountain Biking in Sedona

Arrived in town on friday and hit up "Bike and Bean"(BY FAR best bike shop in town) to get the low down on maps and what trails to hit....as a tourist we did buy the Cosmic Ray's Fat Tire tales and trails book(definatly buy if you don't know your way around)....Our 1st day was a nice 85* at 8am when we hit Schnebly Hill Trailhead(Effort-"a good sweat"--Skill-"intermediate"-- Puck-O-Meter-"8") we chose to ride UP Munds(thinking by the pic in the book it was DOWN hill)....

Rob on Munds Trail

Me rolling for a HUGE drop

Me changing my mind about a 12'er to flat on our 1st day...

This place is sooooo beautiful....

We only could manage 1 ride b/c the Thunderstorms rolled in around 1pm and lightening was hitting the ground all over....so we all sat on the patio and "Stayed Thirsty" w/ this as our view...

and

after the storms blew thru we hiked up the creek....

Day 2 took us to Submarine Rock Loop(Effort-"hard"--Skill Level-"expert"-Puck-O-Meter-"9") and again it was a beautiful 85* and clear....

Rob climbing(well resting)

w/ every climb there is a decent

Most of my pics didn't end up in focus on this day(new camera and I had some setting f'd up....we did shoot some video clips that I'm working on putting together w/ music...and again the T-storms rolled in around 2pm...man this ment we need WAY more beer than expected...

Day 3 started off the same as the 2 previous but a little cooler 81* and our destination today was Cathredal Rock(Effort-"moderate"--Skill Level-"advanced"--Puck-O-Meter-"7.5)....

the Cathredral is getting closer..

this place is Beautiful!!!!

Now we are riding around the base of Cathredal Rock....

almost forgot every RR needs a...

Our riding day ended a little early today b/c the T-storms were going to stay away and we HAD to hit up Slide Rock...we hiked past all the crowds and KIDS...to a tranquil pool w/ a jump rock that was all our own...if anyone came near we told them the creek ends here and to turn around....

This ended my portion of the Sedona trip as I headed out to my dads in Pagosa Springs Colo on tues morning...I'll do a shorter RR for that part of the trip....sorry it this is long but it was an EPIC trip....if you haven't been to Sedona YOU MUST GO!!!!!!!!

There is a TON of things for the entire family to do even if they don't ride...and SUPPORT "Bike and Bean" as they are a very friendly and HELPFUL shop..."Alsolute bikes" not so much...."Mountain Bike Heaven" is a pretty good shop too...

Deano you'd be in HEAVEN...every shop in Durango and Sedona rent IR mkIII's....

1) Forget the ride report. Tell us in person on Thursday! Give the helicopter a rest for the night. Park it on the roof of Hero's for an hour! C'mon Man!

2) Is there an ideal time of the year Sedona should be ridden? I have NO clue why I have yet to make the trip!

3) How many miles were the rides? How long did they take?

4) Did you say MKIII's??? Sound like my kind of place!

Thanks for the pics.

Nice RR, and even better timing Shu: I'll be there in a few days, so that was a great preview and some good info on trails & shops. I'll be renting a ride, so shop info is particularly appreciated.

Any suggestions on fun but easy & scenic trails I can ride with the wife (a semi-newbie) would be appreciated.

Nice RR and pics. I really need to get out there. Sounds like it's time for an STR Sedona trip maybe in Sept to mark the end of summer. Who would be in? I've never been either and it would be good way to kick off the fall.

Dino--I NEED to fly...I'm jonesing but I will be there for the after ride festivities....

Waldo--Hit up "Bike and Bean" for your rentals and info GREAT SHOP...you can't miss them they are onn your way into town on 179 on the leftside..across from Circke K....the Bell Loop is a good beginer ride for the wife w/ some play time for you for her to see you show off...Rob took his g/f and she is straight up noobie(hasn't even been able to complete the loop)...

EVERY trail is scenic and EPIC

you might want to take a Jeep tour up to Submarine Rock or hike it b/c that is a little tough for a noobie but it's a must see...

I cant wait to start riding Sedona more as I guess I'm an Arizonian now.

Dry Creek always has water, bike access at Red Rock Crossing, Budda Beach or Huckaby Trail. Because this time of the year the rains can get very heavy, some of the Sedona Trails can get more tech...like Munds Wagon Trail...well actually you might not survive Munds and a flash flood. Remember it may not be raining in town but that does not mean that it is not raining up on the Mesa's. After the moonsons stop in Sept/Oct they will go out and repair the trail damage.

Call Bike and Bean and reserve the Meduim 5-Spot they have. It is a 5.5 with a Totem...then be prepaired to become a Homer member.

Great RR Shu. Just looking at the photos makes me wish we had ridden more. Better yet never left!

Big props again to The Bike and Bean. Gonzo is the man. He took his time and give us great trail advice our first day. Later that week I needed a new bolt for my seat post clamp (mine was stripped?) Gonzo took one from a new $30 Salsa clamp (which he could have easily sold me) cut it to size, re-threaded the nut nut then felt bad about charging me $5!

Waldo- definately take your wife on Bell Rock Path. It's way easy. As Shu says my g/f is a total novice. I'm just happy she tries. Here are a few more photos from the trip.

G/F Denise on Bell Rock Path

All I can say is it was an awesome trip and I can't wait to get back. If you have not been you gotta go.

Awesome!! I love Sedona! BNB is absolutely the best shop around (I usually stay at the La Quinta Inn right next door). Seeing the pics brings back a lot of great memories. Now that I have my new bike, I have to get back there soon (worry about the heat though). Thanks for the pics.
