Dirt is Good!
|
We had a great time today. Dillon was in full form as was Danny (the new guy). Now that we're at home , I can say, "Man, It was HOT!!".
Brian, thanks for the tour of fresh dirt. It was nice to see Scott and Mike out there. Also, very nice to meet Andy the 'three amigos' (can't remember your names, sorry). The San Gab's ROCK!!! I can only imagine what the trail would be like if it would of rained this year. I'll post the few pics i snapped tomorrow along with a GPS/topo map. ![]() |

John, I've got a bunch of good pix, but my PC was worked on and now it won't download them...I'm workin on it. Yeah, with a little moisture that trail is a lot better. Riding the ss, was real difficult in that lose stuff but after a while I kind of got the hang of it.

1) Is our shuttle vehicle.
2) It pays to be first up the hill, that way you can take oix of everybody else pushin up. This switchback now with all the lose dirt is almost impossible to climb. 3) Takin a well deserved break. 4) Rockin & rollin. Fat Possum and new guy Danny. 5) Yes, they do ride down that. Right on the spine. Andy not pictured here did it a few times. 6) We liked it so much the first time we did it again.

you guy are nuts. i've been riding in the high country all month (July), but i've found mid-mornings and beyond just too wicked hot. i've been making sure i don't ride until perhaps 6PM. Even then, Thursday PM was in the 90's at Chilao (a near-perfect 80F at Waterman 6 PMish)

I disagree,I think the temps are about perfect up there. I don't recall anybody saying it was to hot during the ride. I think we may have been in the 80's.

i am sane (and less fit), by comparision and it WAS 96F last Thursday @ 6PM when when I started the Chialo/Hillyer/SilverMoc loop. Which was actually tolerable. Am glad the worst of the recent heat wave abated. Yesterday late afternoon's ride on Mt Islip was high 70's perfection. |

Tell me more about your Mt. Islip ride? I will understand if Fight Rules apply. Did you drop down to Crystal Lake? Dean

I could be talked into a similiar route, but detour over to Windy Gap, then down toward Crystal Lake until it meets the Mt. Islip trail and climb it to the summit. That should add an add'l 1 1/2 hours to the fun..... |

That's good dirt, too. The descent from Windy Gap is real grins (but not real technical/no death drops). The climb back up the Islip Trail was very rideable/not much hike a bike back "in the day". When Crystal Lake opens ('08?), the fab loop is up the Islip trail then down the Windy Gap trail.
