I signed up for a docent led ride today into Bommer Canyon. The weather was perfect. The ride was on the IRLR website. We rode out of the Canyon up towards Ridge Park Rd. Ran into Dean(dstepper). From there, took Fenceline and back onto Bommer and then Willow/Laurel Canyon Trail towards an IRLR open space to hit up a singletrack called Rabbit Run. This was a fun trail! I took a few pics of a rock face drop that only Jeff(Hoosierdaddy) cleaned. Thanks Jeff for the tips, but maybe next time
. There was another freshly cut singletrack that we took, Maybe some of the other STR riders there may remember. It wasn't as technical, but fun none the less. We then headed over to the Nix Center and rode Stage Coach, took a break and got a dime tour of the Center. Back over Stage Coach to East Fork and back to cars in Bommer Canyon. All in all it was a great ride. Just under 18 miles. Met some cool folks and got to ride something new that is local for a change. Gene, great riding with you! Thanks for taking the pics.
The other singletrack was called Turtle Island, and even though it wasn't as technical as Rabbit run, it still had that one rock garden that was semi-challenging. Good job on the hillclimb... who said there are no free lunches in mountain biking? ![]() Jeff |

What are the future plans? Will there be any additional land/trails open to mountain biking? Don't keep us in suspense!

What are the future plans?
sounds like there will be clearer trail signs going up and the opportunity for more docent rides, trail maintenance, etc. sounds good and i hope to be able to get involved. |

It was a nice ride yesterday and I would encourage riders to check out the docent rides into Bommer, Limestone and Fremont. I've only done Bommer so far, but will definitely participate in the other rides into Limestone and Fremont. I had a chance to ride many other rides, but those rides I can do anytime. These docent rides into the open space areas only happen so often. There are some fun trails. Check out the IRLR website for rides. You'll be glad you did.

If you can get out to Limestone Canyon on a Docent ride, I hear they have a spot called "The Sinks" that is like a mini Grand Canyon. I've never been on it, but hear good things about it. Like Gene said, go check out the Docent rides. It's very important to sign up and participate on these rides when they happen. If people show interest, the IRLRT will keep posting more rides and may eventually open up these trails to the self guided tours. The other cool thing is most of these trails are posted for Docent led rides at night, (after the time change) so if you get tired of Fully loop or STT/Luge you can go on these instead. Granted they are not every week, but it breaks up the same old routine for the few "legal" rides you can do during the week in the Winter time. One more thing... when you do these rides, afterwards you will get a survey to fill out and rate the programs, the trails, the Docents, etc. Please take the time to fill this out and submit it! It is so important to the on going continuation of these rides and programs so they will exist in the future! If they do not hear from anyone, they will feel no one is interested and slowly phase them out. Do your part! Jeff |

Good RR, Gene ... and yes, Jeff is a good rider. I rode the 3 park ride with him before the Traverse and he made riding some of the technical sections look soooo easy! All that and wheelies too!
Also, you want to be sure and check out the Limestone Canyon ride as well... they got some great single track and a place called Little Grand Canyon worth seeing. I'd definitely hold off on the Fremont ride until the weather cools a bit... it get quite hot back there! OMR

I live 10 min. riding distance from Bommer's gate. I know there is a fire road that takes you all the way up to Laguna Coast WP, Ridge Park entrance ( I have seen riders poaching...). It would be awesome if I could ride from home all the way to Laguna Coast and El Morro. It would also be better for the environment, as I would not have to drive to the Ridge Park entrance... I would not only be having a great time, but also helping to prevent global warming and the over dependance on foreing oil... City of Irvine, are you listening? |
