Exclamation Chino Hills Telegraph Canyon

Hey all... thought I would share... I was out tonight going up Telegraph Canyon from the Carbon Canyon entrance and there was a HUGE (approx. 3 1/2 footer for sure) rattle snake crossing the gravel road as I begun to enter.... he said hello by stopping right in the middle of the trail.

2 other bikers came up soon after i stopped and pulled out my phone to take a pic... we gave the healthy snake a wide berth and passed with a cursory "ready to strike pose"

Just thought I would share the fact that wild life does enjoy our trails also!!! It was fun seeing the snake... however, it goes to show us that we need to keep our eyes peeled for critters like that!!!

Go forth and ride safe!!!

I saw a couple of rattlers doing a mating dance up on Southridge a while back. Very interesting.
Along with Whiting, I think Chino has the best wildlife viewing in the OC. You will pretty much always see something.

Coyota on the trail Monday @ Marshal Cyn. He wasn't afraid at all. Barely moved over to the edge of the trail so i could pass. He didn't take off either. He just kept looking back at me so I stopped at talked to him for awhile. Finally, he got bored with me and took off.

Oh yah saw him on the way down too, further up the trail. He didn't bother to politely listen this time. Go firgure. =]

Geocaching in Chino... almost grabbed a Gopher Snake. Thought it was a rattler at first, but noticed a slim head and no rattle on its tail.

I second that. I've always managed to run into something wild out in Chino. Rattlers, coyotes, bob cats, deer, etc.

I saw a Tarantula at Turnbull Canyon. Some how it dragged its body almost across the trail and then died. Didnt get run over or anything. It was just dead. Maybe it was faking it? I push it to the side and it was belly up. Strange but kinda scarey until u find out its dead.
