Default RR: RR: Da Cannell Plunge

As always this ride never seizes to put a big ol grin on everyones faces What can I say? I love this ride and enjoy taking first timers on it as it usually is one they will always remember.

On our particular start we got a slow one. Sir Gurp and I didn't leave town till sometime after 2 pm, but everything was okay as we still managed to beat most the traffic. The ride there seemed to go super quick to me and as soon as we hit town the phone rings and Dean tells us to meet them at the Kern River Brewery. We go about another 5 minutes and hook up with the STR group. Big group already and were just getting started. Watched the boys down a few brews and we left to set up camp. The word then came from Jeff to meet at his house at 8 am and the shuttle is on.

Default Day One Cannell Trail...Da Plunge

This year the Plunge ride went by way too fast. Either I am stronger or the two days of riding before last years Plunge took a toll on me. Plus the weather was 10 degrees cooler.

We broke up into A and B groups: A group rode the extra credt up to Sherman Peak before heading down Cannell Trail. I thought they would have caught up to us much sooner then they they did. If CC had not worn the pads of her back brake, a trail side repair, then pad replacement, we would have all been throught the Plunge about the same time. Eric had spare Juicy 7 pads in his Camelback to fix CC brakes, very good because in would not have been good to come down the Plunge with only a front brake. CC's brake problem was the B groups only mech of the day...not even a flat.

The only crash that I was aware of was Eric's "bike" (ET SoCal) I did not see it I was a couple seconds to late. I came around the corner and see his bike 50 foot down in the rocks. I was told his bike got major air a number of times as it bounced down the hill. I was amazed that it came out undamaged. The last couple of pics is the spot he washed out in and his bike down in the rocks. Could have been ugly.

Here are are few pics. I have a ton of great pics from B groups ride.

I had an awesome time with the "B" group as Dean put it. Wish I could have hung out after the ride for the party, but had to get home.

Default Kernville Day Two

Having never been up the Upper Kern River before, on day two I chose to leave the rest of the group and explore the Quaking Aspen, Camp Nelson area.

I was just poaking around and not really looking for a bike ride. Although, I did poach the paved 100 Giants Trail. Then I did a fireroad ride out to Dome Rock. With some single track on the Dome Rock. Dome Rock is a ton of fun to ride. I want to go back soon and do some of the other trails I scouted out.

The bird is a baby flicker, he must have been just out of the nest becuse he was scared and did not fly away. I could have picked him up....not sure if he could fly yet.

A big thanks to Jeff (Jfish) and his wife for the BB-Q Saturady night...you guys are the best!

Dean

I'm glad someone took some pics. I was such a slacker this weekend. I think I only took 3 pics. Dano was taking a bunch on todays (Sunday) ride. There should be some good ones. There was lots of carnage today

Jeff and Scott - Once again, you guys rock. Thanks for the hospitality. You made this a weekend to remember.

This is the only one I got on "Just Outstanding" as Sir Gurp and I took the bailout and got an early start home.

Heres my pics from the weekend. Not too many action shots since the trails were just too sweet to stop and take pics. This was my second time on the Plunge and first time on Just Outstanding. Both rides this weekend was fun stuff. I only a suffered 1 snapped chain. This happened in the middle of the Plunge ride at Big Meadow. Thanks for the power link Craig (you want that back??). Friday afternoon Jeff took us on the Kern River for a rafting trip. That was an awesome time with some fun rapids and even a cliff jump about 20 feet high into the water. Thanks for everything Jeff. No pics on the river, too wet for the camera to handle.
