Default RR: RR: Rim Nordic, San Bernardino National Forest

Rim Nordic, I rode the XC trails posted at the trailhead. The start has a short maybe 1-2 mile loop that brings you back to near the starting point. I rode that three times hoping maybe Darrin would show up, then I rode the rest of the coarse. Geoladders has all the stats, so I did not bring a GPS unit. The coarse was well marked except for the fireroad above the explosives shack. I studied the trailhead map well enough to know what way to go and picked up trail arrows again after a couple mile fireroad climb.

Having never ridden this coarse before so I cannot compare it to what shape it has been in the past. I can tell you that it looks loose but the traction is very good. The only sections that are worse for wear, are the downhill singletrack switchbacks. I though the coarse was in very good shape. There are a few short steep climbs that totally got me out of breath, my legs were fine but the 7K altitudes made its self known.

I did like this ride and trees make me happy, so having big Cedar trees made me very happy. I took a few pics of the race coarse and one handle bar shot just for my friend Allison.

After Rim Nordic, had lunch in Arrowbear and rode up the pavement to Keller Peak Lookout then came down Exploration Trail. Here is the link to my Exploration Trail RR. Last couple of pics are form Keller Peak. The weather up in the mountains has been perfect the last two weekends. I do suggest that you try Exploration Trail the next time you go to Big Bear….nice trail.

Sweet. Thanks a bunch for that RR. A friend has a cabin very close to that area, so I've been wanting to check it out. Next trip up, for sure!

Thanks for the RR Dean. I'm so sorry I couldn't join you today. The only way I can justify not being there is that I am working to finance our next road trip. Glad you had a nice day, wish I could have been in the trees on the single track with you!

Thumbs up

Man Dean, thanks for the RR.
I wish I'd known you were going up for sure.
There was only one other person that showed up at the shop willing to go up, and he changed his mind real quick when another local route was discused. And I dropped the idea when it looked like I'd be going up and riding alone.
I may try and get Lacey up there next Saturday if I don't have to work.

Hey dstepper - Have you ever tried to link the Exploration Trail with Rim Nordic? If you turn left at the upper split to Keller Peak and ride to the Children's Discovery Forest, there is an access road up by the group camps that is used by Snow Valley for maintenance in the summer. It drops down to the parking lot at the west end of Snow Valley. I routinely combine the two and it pushes the distance to around 18-20 miles with almost 4,200 ft of combined climbing on both trails.

Have not done it, but looking at Google Earth I know it is posible. I think I would want to climb up from Snow Valley to Childrens Demo Forest so I could go down Exploration Trail.

Your route sounds like good one...thanks.

Dean
