In preparation for the up coming Traverse, did the Blackstart to 4 Corners and down Maple Springs & back to car parked at church on Silverado Canyon.
4 of us started out at 8:30 am two on SS and me and another geared (thank God!) Weather was perfect this morning with a cool breeze that warmed as the day progressed. Trip up to the Motorway took 3 hours (short break). The others decided to go down here... I continued on and reached 4 Corners in a little over 1 1/2 hrs. Had to walk one looooong steep loose section. Had plenty of water left...30 oz in a 100 oz Camelback. You'll be able to fill up again here for race. Also took a 24 oz bottle of Accelerade and a Thermo tab. No cramps! Still had plenty of zip to go to the peak had I wanted to. So, a little under 4 1/2 hrs to the first checkpoint in the Traverse. They give you 6 hours to make it. Sun was very warm by 11 am. I have a sinking feeling it will be hotter on the 9th of June... although we will be starting at 6 am. Lots of motorcycles on Main Divide today. After a small refueling break, the trip down Maple Springs is always an adventure with the gate being open... 5-6 cars coming up. Back at chruch parking lot a little before 2 pm. Mileage approx 38 miles. Didn't take a camera as not a very interesting route: read boring!... but need the saddle time and acclimation to ol' man, Sun. ![]() Good luck next weekend Gene... it's a long mother! OMR

Good time to 4 corners. It will take that sort of pace to finish the traverse considering the 2nd cutoff is only 1 1/2 hours from the first cutoff time (1:30 at Lower HJ). 4 hours to 4 corners gives you a net time of 3 1/2 hours to Holy Jim. I'll be pacing my time next week and I'll post it. Just think, after Holy Jim is the long ride toward WHT and that WALL.
