Be advised that the following picture was sent to the Warrior's Society from the Debra Clark, the trails manager
for the Trabuco District. The picture shows a ramp built on the San Juan Trail with a map of its approximate location. The picture was taken by a Sierra Club hiking group. The person closest to the ramp is Paul Carlton, the hard nosed Sierra Club rep we dealt with during the wilderness process; he absolutely wanted to ban bikes from the Trabuco District. He had a bad experience with a DH rider in Santa Barbara years ago and had to jump off the trail; he has no love for mountain bikers, especially DH riders. Unfortunately ramps and stunts are not allowed and the existence of them only encourages more people to build them; this also gives ammunition to people like Paul Carlton to ban bikes from public trails. I'm sure this picture will be making the rounds of the Sierra Club and anti-mountain bike sites. The Warrior's society has been asked by the district to aid in the removal of the jump as soon as possible so as to discourage others from building and using more illegal ramps and stunts on a public trail. Somebody went to a lot of trouble to build this ramp. It's unfortunate that all that effort went for nothing and now gives more ammunition to those that would like to ban us MTBers from public trails. OMR

Gregg, if any volunteers are needed in removing the jump, put me down. I don't want any trails closed to all due to a couple riders using bad judgement.

I believe this is the jump in question. It was taken during the SS Sufferfest. I remembered seeing this pic on the RR. We'll need crow bars and other means of breaking this down plus a means to haul it down from there.

thats ashame. i understand its on forest service land and what not and they didnt have permission to construct the ladder, but there are reasons these things are being built...just looking at all those people in that photo makes me cringe, something about them just makes me feel weird, i dunno, its like i can see the word "agenda" in a text bubble floating above each of them...im sure some of them live in those big ass houses that are encroaching on what is left of our trail system.

As soon as possible. I have two chainsaws, a Stihl 044 and a Jonsered 525. Unfortunately the much lighter of the two, the Jonsered, has an air leak and doesn't run very well. I'm guessing that cutting it into small bits wouldn't be suitable. That's OK, I can strut my chainsaw muscles somewhere else. I do have hammers and nailbars though. All it would take is about 5 to 10 guys, each with a hammer and a nail puller and this thing would be dismantled in an hour. We'll probably need an assortment of wrenches, in case of lag bolts, and a screw gun or two, as I'm sure this thing is riddled with wood/sheetrock screws. I'm all in for an as soon as possible dismantling of the jump. |

I am down to help as well. I looked at that picture and all I cold think of was people that had nothing better to do make a big fuss about this. All in all that ramp should not be their but they sure did a nice job building it.

![]() Seriously, it was a bonehead move to put the stunt where it is, but I can't help but interject a commentary about the state of affairs in this country. How and why does anyone think that the best course of preservation for our National Forrests and other open spaces for the future generations is to essentially keep the citizens of this country from enjoying them in the here and now? If a tree falls in the forest but nobody sees or hears it, does it still fall? If the Sierra Club and friends get their way, the answer would be that it didn't fall; because no one would be allowed to have a peak for themselves to answer the question. The responsible use and enjoyment of our National Forests and open spaces by as many people as possible is the best way to ensure for their long term survival. The more people that care about something in this country, the greater the likelyhood the resource/issue will be properly addressed by the legislature. Sequestering the beauty of our open spaces away so that no one can enjoy them without the blessing of lobbiest groups is the fastest way to make sure that fewer and fewer people care about what's out there. The fewer people that care, the fewer people that will be left to oppose further building and destruction of our valuable open lands. The folks at the Sierra Club and other "conservation" groups just don't get it. But then again, who would expect them to. They are a bunch of pious bitches who value their opinions more than the freedoms of their fellow countrymen. Now with all that out of the way... I can help with removal on Sunday or late in the afternoon/early evening on Friday. Chris |

looks like the old man was sizing up the jump and the old lady is saying "yeah you might land about here, but get your gear on Frank you know what happend last time"
it looks fun, but as much as i want it, i have to agree that it is not the right place. because Paul had an "experience" in Santa Barbara the whole world has to pay? |

We are meeting at the hot springs around 4:30 and driving up to Blue Jay from there. There are 4 of us so far. We could use a few more hands if anyone else can make it.
