Thumbs up Oaks ride 5-11-07

Well, I passed up the SJSF to get in a ride with my son Jake. It's not to often that just he and I get to get out, so Saturday was a GREAT day!

We did the usual, and only route, of up the Three "B"s, and down the ridgeline to Zips.

He gave the "B"s all he had, but had to walk on some of the steeper parts. There were a couple of hikers comming down B #3 as we were going up. They stopped and cheered encouragements for him as he kept on pedaling. I told him that with a few more rides, he'd make those hills, no problemo!
Once we reached the powerlines, he asked if we were going to go downhill now? "Oh yeah, ready for your payoff for your climbing?", I said.

Then I saw it. The rangers took a bobcat to the singletrack around the hill, and up the trail on the other hill!

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!

Well, that wasn't going to ruin our ride, so off we went.

The ridgeline to Zips is still in great shape, and Jake even followed me down the small chute to the right.
We made it down Zip's with no problems, and lot's of smiles at the bottom. At the sandy wash, we took off, zoomed accross the sand, and up the other side. Then it happened. He stalled, and while holding onto his bike flopped over backwards, and rolled back down onto some rocks. OUCH!

At the top, we watched a group of the OCRiders.com guys come accross. Nice group of guy's!

Man, it was a great ride!

Here's some pictures;

See you on the trails!!

how old is jake?

i've introduced the sport to my 8-year old and so far he digs it. he's on a haro bmx model i picked up at a local bike shop. good bike for his age and goofing around the neighborhood, but a little tough for the trails. if his interest continues i may look for a mt. bike for him.

i've taken him to the fully loop and peter's canyon. don't think he's up for oaks yet, but may be in a couple of months.

Jake's 13 now, but he's been riding since he was 5. He's not as into it as Lacey, but enjoys it when we get out there all the same.
My favorite rides are the rides with my kids!!
