Default Toad Fest RR

What an outstanding day. The weather was perfect to do a loop around Holy Jim -Trabuco. Lot's of people showed up for this event, I think more than last year. I saw Gene (genusmtbkr5), Kevin (Xhuskr), and Andrew (Winger) there early in the morning. We ended up riding witih Kevin the whole day. The ride was pretty easy, wow, did I say that? Last year, I walked the Wall and the last ascent up to Trabuco. This year, I was able clear the Wall and all the uphills on MD. Climbing up HJ, the guy in front of me got so tired by the end he fell off the trail and down the canyon. Luckily, there was a big bush that saved his ass from rolling all the way down. I helped him get his bike back up the trail.

We took a long break at the top of HJ enjoying the shade before heading out. Soon after, we ran into a guy that took a spill on the divide. Lot's of blood on his knee and elbow. At first I thought he cut a good chunk of meat off his knee, but after cleaning the wound, it was just superficial. We decended a loose rocky portion of the divide and came accross another fella that took a major spill. There were WS members and his buddies loading the guy into a truck. Apparently, he broke his nose and cut his cheek. Ouch! The games were the same and the rootbeer floats at the top of Horsethief were so refereshing. No bees at the top of HJ either, woohoo!

Decending Trabuco was FUN. It was my third time coming down the trail so I knew what to expect. I don't think I've ever gone down that fast before. No flats, no mechanicals for us on the ride.

Gene

Great RR and pics Andy! Especially the one with me holding up those wheels . It was a great event and a real good turnout according to Chris and Sherry of the WS. The prizes that they gave out for the games were nice, but the raffle prizes were even better. I was totally stoked to win probably one of the most sought after prize next to the airline tickets and Blur frame, Those WH-M975 XTR wheels are sweet! Props to all who rode and for coming out to support a great cause . I had a great time. No riding today after putting in nearly 50 miles in 2 days. I pushed it pretty hard yesterday and Friday and I'm wasted. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms.

Great RR! Looks like an awesome day. Wish I could have done that event, but prior commitments, plus the fact that I haven't ridden the route before meant this year was a no-go for me. Maybe next time.

Gene - congrats on those wheels!!! What a killer prize!

Ya Justin, wish you and Allison could've come out for this one. It's too bad there are so many other rides going on the same weekend, but I guess that's nothing to complain about. We just have to pick and chose which rides.

Thanks Waldo, Hey if you ever get the inch to do that route, give me a shout. I will be training for the Traverse next and have a training ride set up for June 2nd, 1 week before the actual event. You and anyone else interested are welcome to join in since it will require car shuttles. It would be a good opportunity to do a dry run so you know what's ahead. The Main Divide is relentless!

Is everyone doing the Bike N Beers next weekend? On gears?

Depending on the particulars, I might be up for that. I'll check in with you a week or so prior and you can fill me in on route (got a Geoladders link?), time, etc., and I'll fill you in on whether I'm feeling good enough to be anything but a boat anchor, especially since you'll be rocking some fast wheels!

The ride was a lot of fun! Too bad I didn't find a few toads or I could have scored some new pedals. It was great seeing people & meeting new ones.

Flippin' Trabuco owned me this time. I fell off the bike going top speed at the very top, within 1/8 mile of the aid station. After the picnic I went to the Dr. and got 2 stitches in my knee.

Sorry to hear about the knee... although I noticed that didn't seem to slow you down when you went to the table to claim your booty!

Heal quickly,

Ya, I was behind you guys and you're right, we were flying. It's a good thing to always keep some distance away from the rider ahead just for that reason. It could've been a pile up! I'm glad you're o.k.
