Default Fully Train

after all these years i finally caught the train that runs under harbor. i came ripping down the swooping left hander hit the man hole jump (styled it out), then started hearing a rumble as i approached the tunNel. there it was rolling towards me, a big ass union pacific locomotive. i pulled to the right way to the right and watched the train roll by about 1/2 mile of train
be careful at that section as it gets tight.
ride free .

Wow!
I often see the train where it crosses Malvern (near Bastenchury), but I've been riding the loop on mountain bikes since about 1994, and I've never seen a train in that area! (same track) Although I do remember getting out of high school (Sunny Hills) and being blocked.

It's been a while since I've seen one riding or not. In the day, that line was our main penny-flatening machine. Life sure was simple..........

Ya, I went to Sunny Hills also(Class Of 82), and I remember that train crossing Malvern and once again at the school's only entrance. What years did you attend?

I rode with someone once that worked for one of the railroads and they said in order to keep those tracks, they have to run a train on them every so often even though the track isnt active...

I was in the class of 87 - entered shortly after you left. Did you ride the Parks BMX track?

If you look at the tracks, you can tell that they are still regularly used by the polished, rust-free finish on the top.

I think oiled was a better term. People would get the drums of used oil from the autoshop and pour it on the entrance hill. Not that I know anything about that. Remember Rupert, and the standard question to him, "I'm going to the library, what flavor [of donut from Christie's] do you want?"

I do, that was an every year occurance, both 1st day and last days of school. The buses had a tough time getting up that hill.

No I didn't ride the bmx track. I surfed alot then. By 1987 I was already in the Navy. I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers that also attended SHHS. Classes of 81, 83, 84 and 89(brother Mike). I bet you and my brother know the same people. He went to Fern Dr. and then to Parks.

Went to a bud's house on Morelia tonight (about 1/8 mile past the bridge - the tracks run just in front of his home). He's been there for over a year and has only seen the train twice until lately. Tonight, the train was parked in front of his home. Took a little stroll and found out that the line will be active for at least 3 months. The 5 Fwy construction at Beach Blvd. took out a train line. The Loop train is hauling a HUGE load of lumber three or four times a day. It should end in August.
