Default RR: RR Share Poker Ride - El Moro

What a beautiful day to go for a bike ride. We pulled into the lot at 7:30am and immediately saw Dino riding around. STR riders in our group today: Adam, Jose, Jeff, Justin, Mike, Ann, Dean (for a short while), and moi. Johnny, Dillon, and OMR were working the event. Adam's friend Kevin (I think) joined us after the first check point. We decided to go against the grain and ride the route backwards. With Adam leading the way, we were in for a climbfest.

The pace was pretty casual but I think we were going faster than the rest of groups because everytime we stopped at a check point, we had more stamps than the others. No mechanicals, no big crashes...well, I did go over the bars at the bottom of BVD but I'm blaming Dino on that one . Ann was really excited about clearing all of Redtail/Rattlesnake for the first time. Nobody had Lucky Charms for breakfast cause the raffle was BRUTAL. We didn't win crap, well, Andy (Rut) did win a case of Fat Tire and some clothing he threw back into the crowd. The funniest part of the day was seeing Jose and Justin fighting over tires. Justin got the rear and Jose the front. Jose was so excited he finally got something until Dino reminded him he didn't have 26" wheels. Lastly, Big Thanks to Share, The Path, Hoss, Fat Tire, Rock n Road, and all the other sponors that put this event together. They did a great job. Alright, onto the photos:

Thanks for the great RR (and surf report).
I really wanted to make this event as my first "race," but the timing was all wrong for me, and the flat I got in my garage was icing on the karma cake. Looks like a ton of fun was had by all. Hope to be there next time.

Nice RR, I really wish I could've made it and up until 3 AM, I almost leaned that way till my bro called at 5 AM to tell me that the Toad practice ride was on. The pics are great and you're right, it was a beautiful day to ride no matter where you chose to ride. Really sounded like a great time and I'm glad you all did!

Yep, had a real fun time, but you forgot to mention Jeff winning 250 bucks from The Path. Looks like the guys from Pasadena (PMBA) made it pretty good and that one guy kept winning a lot, but he was cool about it and thru a lot of stuf back into the crowd.
I lost a screw to my seat and missed the hike-a-bike so I was back an hour before the rest of the group. I got a pair of socks and a calender that were just giveaways, but it's better then going home empty handed. I can't believe how big this ride has got over the years. I went to the first 3 and it looks to be more then 4 times as big as it used to be.

The crowning moment was when Andy won the beer. Could he of asked for a more fitting prize?

Mike,

I didn't realize Jeff won something. Glad someone in our group won! Looks like everyone who stood in the front row got something. The slackers in the rear had Charlie Brown luck. Oh, the group from Pasadena Mtn bikers, they had a ton of raffle tickets. I asked one of the riders where they rode in the S.G.'s. She told me they usually ride in OC cause there are a lot of OC members.

I saw Jose and his new gf, Kermit, even saw Adam and his new beast, but missed the rest of you....I did the kid's ride (cause I'm just a kid at heart--hahah).

Glad to hear that everyone had a great time! Maybe I'll try a grown up ride sometime in the future

It hasn't gotten any bigger, we just crammed more stuff into the picnic area to make it look more crowded.
To be honest, we have more sponsors now so we can give better prizes but our numbers were slightly down this year. We like to keep it small to make sure it's manageable and people have a good time.

Talking That was a hell of a fun ride!!!!

I was surprised at the number of guys that rode past Mike with a gorilla mask on his helmet and me with a tiger's outfit on... we were the Jokers (check point #7). I even rode up to guys and asked if they had seen checkpoint 7 yet?... Not a clue!!! I thought the tiger ears would be a dead giveaway! Unfortunately, I ran into Andy and my chain immediately broke... ahhh, the curse of the Rut continues to hold true....

All in all, a great day... I reallly had fun riding away from people chasing me on the SS... he he he.... old age, stealth and guile beats youth, strength and young legs any day!... although there was one girl who beat the hell out of me on Slow n Easy... damn, she was fast! This ride continues to age very well... like fine wine.

OMR
PS: Congrats to all that won prizes
