I may be taking a weekend road trip out to Northern Arizona with my gf later this spring or early summer - I was considering bringing my 6/6 bike if there was any worthy action to be had. I could probably convince her to drive me for a shutte run or two if the road wasn't anything crazy and it didn't involve a lot of waiting around for her at the bottom. Long XC rides are probably out of the question since I don't think taking off on her for a whole afternoon on a weekend road trip would really fly. Is there anything really epic and flowey or really crazy out there? PM if it's anything that shouldn't be discussed publicy. Those who provide shall be rewarded with singletrack sweetness anytime they're up north of LA near SB/SLO....or beer, whichever suits you.
Pictures help too - we all appreciate drooling material ![]() Edit - Typo in the title. At no point do I plan on visiting somewhere called "Flatstaff".... |

I was passing through flagstaff about 2 years ago with my bike and while driving though downtown found this place, Flagstaff - Absolute Bikes: mountain, road and family bicycle sales, service and rentals , absolute bikes. I had no plans of riding but after talking to the guys there i just had to head out. There are some shuttles right outside of downtown. If you stop by the shop i would be willing to bet they will point you in the right direction

Mt Elden in Flagstaff is shuttlers heaven except the fireroad getting up is rather rough. See my Ride Reports from a few weeks back. #1 #2
In Sedona a short shuttle would be to shuttle Mudds Wagon Trail. She could give your a ride up Schnebly Road to the upper trailhead. Lastly there is Sunrise Ski Area in the White Mountains never been there but very popular with the PHX crowd in the summer, Dean

Mt. Elden in Flagstaff is a must-do. Shuttle up Mt. Elden fireroad to the upper Sunset trailhead. Ride down via the Sunset and Schultz Creek trails. Very easy to follow and almost all downhill except for a short climb in the middle of Sunset. Warning: The Mt. Elden trail system is subject to fire closure most every year between late May/early June until the Monsoon hits. Check status before you head out. Munds Wagon Trail is another fun shuttle. However, the singletrack crosses Schnebly Hill Road a number of times and spotting the upper trailhead is not easy unless you know exactly where it is. I wish I knew some way of describing where it is, but I just can't think of anything. Maybe someone else here can help? |

Thinking more about it, you could shuttle Schultz Creek by diving up Schultz Pass Road to the Lower Sunset Trail Parking lot.

I've been touring around just about every technical ST in southern California and the Central Coast that I can find for a couple years now. Trails here are still epic but I still want some new scenery and I had mad riding fantasies the last time we went through Sedona when I was 17 visiting schools with my family (I wasn't even mountain biking at that age either).
I really need to get up to the Southern Sierras and sample some of that singletrack soon to really cover the whole "SoCal" range of trails - specifically Kernville/Isabella and all their associated trails. That and hike-a-bike Mt. San Jacinto.... |
