Default RR: Back at Oaks!!

Our shop ride was back in action this morning and I was very excited to get back there.
Grandpa, Margolis, Dave, Francisco, Gabe and I clipped in at 7:45am and headed in.

Tani and a few of the Path guys headed in with us and we split up at the first burn section. I could not believe how surreal it looked.

Base of the first B

Up the first B

The guys coming up the first B

View from the bottom of the 2nd B

The crazy old guy that we see every saturday morning, he rules!

Middle of the 2nd B

This looked like something out of a bad sci-fi movie

This kiosk actually survived. Charred but still standing. Oh and my latest SS project!

A little bit of burn action on the sign!

The SHARE guys were out, ran into Maxwell coming down chutes but that is not him in the pix!

The guys coming thru Chutes and some more fire damage

I know there are a lot of pix but I call Santiago home and it was pretty tough going in there this morning. The campfire smell is everywhere and the damage was just overwhelming.
Good ride as always and congrats to Dave for clearing the 2nd B!!

I know George may not allow this last pix but 2 cars must have been left in the parking lot overnite because they were both vandalized. This is Dave and Gabe taking "advantage" of some nice graffitti on 1 of the cars!

Haha! Great pics Neil thanks for the RR! So overall are the trails more sandy/ash or in decent shape? Thinking of going out there tomorrow to check it out.

That last pix might make the xmas card this year

The trails were in good shape, a lot of sand at the top of Zips otherwise very tasty!

You know they say that for this area that fire makes for a more healthy enviornment. Most plants will regenerate and a lot of plants will be back with just a little rainfall. I was devestated when I watched my old local trails burn up one year. I was really worried that it would take many years to come back to where I would consider it back. It took one year, yep, one year. It's been four now since it burned and you really can't tell there was a fire there at all, unless you look real hard.

You can see some new growth already. There are some plants that cannot survive without fire because that's the only way their seeds will open. Not only will you soon see it back to normal but chances are, it will be better than it was before.
One more good thing, the trails are getting a break and SHARE has an opportunity to get them back in shape.
Now if it would just rain!!!

FIRE GOOD.

I went out for a spin at Santiago Oaks yesterday before sunset. Thankfully, I didn't see any dude on dude action in the parking lot.

It was a bit weird seeing everything burned and barren - it kinda reminded me of Bootleg Canyon coming down Chutes. Since there wasn't any brush or anything blocking visibility down the trail, you could pick up some good speed.

Thanks for the RR's guys. Great to see the rejuvenation happening. Looks like with all that brush burnt down & with traffic at a temporary low, it might be a good time to try climbing Chutes...if I felt like suffering that much!

Thumbs up Nice to see you guy's!

It was great seeing you guy's out there enjoying the trails!
The trail work went smooth. We got at least six new trail signs put in.
Just keep in mind that the trail closed sign at the top of Waterfall is only temporary. It need's a little work done to it, before it can be opened back up.
Nam mentioned me carrying out a tailgate. Well, it was laying up on the ridge, off the trail, where it was in the bush's, out of sight, for who know's how long. The ranger mentioned that, that was the type of thing they needed their "mule" (quaud) for. She said that they need the trails to be wide enough for her to ride it on them in case of emergencies, and to haul junk that had been dumped. I told her that she didn't need widen any trails to do that, that we could take care of stuff like that by hand. She looked at me like I was nuts! So, I carried it out. The other guy's offered their help, but I wanted to show her what could be done with a little determination. She really appreciates the help that the MTB community is providing, and is looking forward to working with us more in the future.
Here's the few pictures we took;

where's that tailgate party again?

See you guy's on the trail!

Rode the Oaks today and seems like Waterfall is officially open. Didnt see any closed signs @ the exit and the sign at top was off. Ranger also didnt say anything when I tumbled down the trail.

Thanks to all those who put in the work to help rebuild this gem.
